In their heads the see her as some sort of spokesperson for "the black community"

The powers that be in montrose probably don’t know any average black persons, working a regular job and motoring on through life in Ireland. Apart from their taxi driver who ferries them home after a few pink gins or the staff at their favourite Ethiopian restaurant.

They certainly don’t hire many. To the montrose bubble set, Ebun is the average black person living in Ireland.

The fact that she is employed to “help” students in a college with a diverse and eclectic population is at best hilarious and at worst deeply concerning.

Ebun is now on nationwide calling us all racist. She claims she’s been overlooked by many jobs purely because of her skin colour. Even though UCD basically created a module for her to teach.

No mention or question as to why or how she originally came to Ireland even though she is saying she wants truth and justice.

If she got the truth and justice she claims to want, she would be questioned about her asylum claim, asked as to why she withdrew it and instead got leave to remain under the IBC scheme Minister McDowell introduced after the citizenship referendum.

Instead she calls the very man who issued her with leave to remain in the state, a racist over some statues that have nothing to do with slavery. A very gracious and grateful individual.

Well if Ireland's so bad why doesn't she go to Dublin airport and fxck off home.

Because she's making the sacrifice so that she can help her race, and enlighten Irish people... Her story of her children being on the receipt of racism.. the holding out of a hand at sports.. it was so moving. And didn't sound real at all.

Switch her off, that’s what I do. I find her too aggressive. If a white person showed such venom towards black issues on RTÉ they would never get another second of airtime, in debate modes the host never has the balls to correct her, nor redirect her, she’s allowed rant away. Double standards like this will never lead to equality, and will only galvanise racism in the eyes of those who think it’s ok. Were she more engaging and gracious in her criticism, people might listen to her point, but all I hear is venom and I don’t listen to people that speak in that way no matter the subject or ethnicity.

If a white person spoke as she did, they'd be bracketed into a right wing group. Minority groups are naturally exempt from such an association, especially Black people. The obvious agenda just grates on me.

Just a stunning hotel all around, service, food, architecture, standards. They nailled down a certain way of doing things and appealing to a discerning clientele and they haven't needed to change that for a century.

    Shíte Guinness though.

First they came for the socialists...

Unfortunately the woke are gaining a very strong voice..... 2020 has been one very worrying year and not just because of covid....

You say that and sure it's a nice little tagline and whatnot, but who was calling for removal of these statues? Where were the protests and boycotts?

There weren't any and this was an entirely stupid decision from start to finish.

100% it was a publicity stunt..... I actually wish it gained more attention and outrage and of course it would be brilliant for ebun to be heard by all so they can actually boycott UCD or at the very least put in a complaint.... She is for the birds.

    Exactly.

The more people piss and moan about her, the more her profile continues to grow.

They didn't seem very attractive to me when I walked by. Put them in the halls and redesign the frontage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0WE9cOKqkI

heard this the other day, aside from it being nothing more than an incoherent rant, there was one stand out moment for me which shows just how blinkered her vision and views are. At 2:40 she answers the interviewers question of how are the statues racist if they are not slaves and her reply is because they are "black figures standing outside a white opulent building". I don't know if she has ever seen the Shelbourne hotel but the building is primarily red brick Victorian as are lot of the surrounding buildings. The rest of the stone work around the red brick isn't even white.

She literally sees everything as black and white when it doesn't exist.

As an aside I'm baffled how this woman has a phd or is in education, any time I have heard her speak it is just pure incoherent, aggressive hate fueled ramblings which aren't very articulate. Just an ignorant bully without anything between her ears to back it up.

She is a fool but got free education here and was then given a position and a job in a college..... This whole thing stinks and is bizarre...

    Should thread title be changed?

    Maybe something like
Shelbourne Hotel remove historic statues due to 100% incorrectly imagined association with slavery

I took her reference to white, being the race, i.e. us Caucasian folks and the hotel being an extension of our wealth, and something which folks such as herself can't access. She actually made reference to this when she was RTE facing off against McDowell.

Built in 1824, during Ireland’s colonial rule by the British Empire, I would imagine that most of ‘our’ ancestors couldn’t access the Shelbourne Hotel either.
However, I’m sure she is as free as any of us to visit today.
Is Dr Joseph unaware of Ireland’s past?

Just to be clear, I think she's full of sh!t and made reference to this back when she was on RTE. Most ordinary WHITE irish folks can't afford to stay there either.

What relevance has that? Have you not learned from Dr. Joseph?

Irish history should not be taught in Irish schools. Irish children should only learn about the history of Africa.

It doesn't matter that at the time that the statues were purchased, Ireland was less than a generation out of the huge human tragedy that was the Great Hunger and it does not matter that it would have been still in the midst of poverty stricken people scraping together a few pennies to try to get into the hull of a ship to America or Australia.

At the time of the statues, the population of Ireland was probably around the same as the population of Nigeria. Irish population continued to fall over the next century due to poverty.

She's jealous/possessive in keeping her status as a victim of white oppression. Which means only Black people can be hard done by, and nobody else can ever come close to whatever they, as a collective race, have suffered.

Naturally, since each race has a collective consciousness, white people are all guilty for what happened, and black people... err... aren't. ah ha... because reasons! those reasons won't be named, but the reasons exist. And they're special reasons, making Black people forever innocent pawns who were abused by the evils of other races. But since other races can't/won't support us, we'll just deal with White people for now, and you should be thanking us. Yes! Thank us, you racists.

That didn't even cross my mind, is she seriously suggesting that building is limited to "white folk"? Did she call it a 'white building' where only 'whites' visit and reside? So we operate an apartheid hotel system in Dublin city centre?

    That is incredible.

Think she described it as a white, opulent building. it probably makes sense in her head. She simply sees white folks everywhere, no matter what country,' or its historical context, as racist oppressors.

It's like trying to deny Original Sin. Only through abject grovelling can our souls be cleansed.

Except they can't be cleansed. Oh, we can supposedly help eliminate racism, and help black people in Ireland, but from her rhetoric, i get the feeling it will always be a convenient way to seek extra 'help'. No doubt, the racism will go the way of sexism where the ism will become subconscious, without the awareness of the user, but there all the same... and detectable by the enlightened.

    detectable by the enlightened.

A priest-class if you will, from whom indulgences can be purchased via funding of the racism industry.

If she has a problem with "white " buildings , why doesn't she moved out of the house she's living in ? Since most Africans have shied away from doing any physical work once they got to Ireland the house she's living in and every house Africans are living here has been built by white people . Most of it subsided by the taxpayer who are mainly white aswell . Doubt she has a problem with that ??

More of the same oppressed/oppressor BS that's extremely popular in race/gender politics these days. [Insert oppressed here] are always agentless victims and it's always [Insert oppressor here] fault. That's how these muppets see the world, or use it for their own ends.

So the fact that slavery was going on in Black Africa for thousands of years before Whitey showed up and kept going long after Whitey reckoned this was morally dubious and left, right up to today, making serious money for Black slavers along the way never gets addressed. Or when it does the Blacks involved are blameless. Indeed are treated like innocent children bound by culture and not to blame at all. IE simpletons.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
