The next 24 hours are crucial.

Are they more crucial or less crucial than the previous 24 hours or the following 24 hours?

Just follow the guidelines and fart into your elbow or sleeve.

All that Yoga and Pilates up and down the country finally gets called to action at the front line.

How many extra ICU beds were put into the system over the summer to deal with the winter surge or second wave?

Probably discussed already, but why don't we do a country wide lockdown for two weeks every 3 months? (first two weeks in Oct, Jan etc.)

Disruption would be minimal since we know well in advance and it would effectively reset the community spread back to what we had during the summer?

would 2 weeks be enough for NPHET?

So do you think you can do whatever you want because of extra ICU beds?

Its a pity the HSE didnt answer the call to arms and increase the ICU capacity while they had a low rate in the summer . Its a pity they didnt answer the call to arms and employ more nurses to man the ICU beds and get testing and tracing up to what they promised us .
If we are to answer the call to arms let the HSE lead by example

Where exactly did I say that? I asked how many extra ICU beds were put into the system over the summer

Whatever about this particular poster many do appear to be under that impression. Personal responsibility is an alien concept to these types.

Are we still officially at 1800 deaths was there not some reduction In the amount In Jul in relation to registered deaths or something like that. Or maybe it was compared to RIP or something. I think I read that or maybe I was mistaken there is a lot of different info around.

Sorry, Sunday morning and not thinking properly. Thought you meant that they got extra ICU beds and to hell with the advice because of that.

Surely we should be clamouring for ICU beds because we do not have enough in normal times.

I don't think anyone knows what is going to happen over the next few weeks tbh. I do know people's mental health is as important as their physical health and we have to look after both.

All this talk of curtain twitchers and other silly comments doesn't help anybody either. Some people are genuinely scared and even though I think the media are at times overblowing the effects of the virus there are also cases out there of it destroying the lives of perfectly healthy people as well as those with underlying conditions and the elderly.

Right now I think what we are lacking is leadership. That's not a dig at FF or FG btw but I just think they are in an impossible position and stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The more I think about it the more I think as rough as it would be to achieve the zero covid approach might be best until we have a safe tested vaccine which let's face it could be a year or more away.

Go away with your emotionally intelligent sense of nuance and admitting not to know everything. THIS is not the thread for that kind of mullarkey :)

Case numbers will tell a lot today.
If it’s big it means that the massive backlog has been cleared.
If it’s relatively normal like the last 2 days then we’ve completely changed our testing system and are re-testing a **** ton of positives.

    Protesters :D

This is the man who throughout the 80s and 90s tried to convince everyone that many millions of heterosexuals were going to contract HIV/AIDS. I remember ads on the television implying that anyone who had sex without a condom was facing a death sentence.
