Panamera all the way for me. Not a fan of the saloon but the estate is the dogs danglies.

I hear ya, and normally anything porsche and I'd be all over it. But it just looks a bit too big and proportions don't look right on it or something....anyway, I wouldn't say no to one:D

Chris Harris has or was testing one and it looks good, IMO.

I think I'd prefer the RS6 or the AMG, theyre a bit more understated, in the right colours than the M8 and certainly more so than the Porsche.

The more I look at the new M3/M4, the more I like it.
Mat Watson practically begged BMW UK to loan him one on his video.

I think Fitzgeme has/had one on preorder. I think he's an electric convert now though.

I’m with you carsfan, fast proper M BMW’s are always special. Love the Green too.

its a stunning looking car, is an exotic a cheaper ownership experience though, than the likes of this, which just takes staggering depreciation in the first few years, way larger than an exotic I assume?

I see bob flavin got his rs7 video up before you Mark.
I gave up on it a few minutes in though. Sometimes his reviews are ok but this was just self indulgent rubbish.
No doubt yours will be better.

Well a new exotic car is going to depreciate worse. Unless there's some rarity etc. Most cars lose half in 3 years.

I think a 50/60k manual 06ish audi R8 is probably the ownership cost/depreciation sweet spot

I have to fast forward through a lot of his stuff tbh. Just too much waffle. His "Sunday service" thing is a bit bizarre. 2+ hours of it.

He’s like Shmee, I don’t care how interesting the car he’s has I can’t stand watching him.

Spent a bit too much time talking about the air vents and then about the Peugeot hatchback he was following. Production value on the videos pretty poor too. Pity, but guess I'll wait for Nobbys review for a bit more enthusiasm.

I think you'll find all sports cars are appreciating massively these days, or at least that's what Irish dealers seem to believe...

Any of you gentlemen have any idea how much to bring in from UK an e92 2008 m3 4 door.
The only version I can see in vrt calculator is an f80 option ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

    Around 6-7k I believe.

While were on the topic, I don’t suppose anyone has VRT’d a mk1 Audi TT 3.2 in the past year or so? Its not on the calculator

Not a fan of black wheels but that can be sorted. Spec is a bit meh too but high spec is probably lower priority when buying one of these.

I looked into this quite a lot but then when reality hit with the numbers, it's 1800 tax. Most companies won't even quote me on insurance so maybe eventually get that for 1000-1200 if I was being realistic, then obviously running costs on top and I stopped looking. Then every other month I'll see the car at 6min 40s locally just pottering around and I'll start looking again ☺️

    Thanks for the info lads.
Yes Vintage i see where your coming from !
its a second car for myself so although expensive its a long term keeper id be thinking.
There is a silverstone blue one in Belfast at 14k i was considering.

    VRT really is a bsatard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,398 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

    Yep...

Technically though the vrt should just rest in revenues account though. Those m3s will hold their value and the vrt can be reclaimed if you send it back over the border. But Brexit may mess that up, not sure.

Very bare spec, which if it was me would put me off. Needs premium pack, tech pack and comfort pack for me anyway.
When you go to sell that car you will be told it’s a poverty spec car and everyone wants fully loaded ones. Good to get an idea of price for one though. I looked at a few previously on autotrader and with vrt was calculating that a reasonable one could be brought in for about 60k if doing it yourself, but obviously there is a bit of work in doing that.

Any tips for paying 15k in a private sale. What sort of reg lookup should I do, what way would I safely pay do I just bring it in cash or what.

Also don't have an insurance policy at the moment so do I just call around before I go and get them to keep the quote and buy the insurance on the spot after I buy the car?

This is the car I'm thinking of. Already spoke to seller and am happy with the story of yellow reg in ROI while still in his name so proof of coming in wouldn't be an issue for vrt

A lot of the m340i's on auto trader seem to have a similar spec (or lack of) to the one above. After currency conversion and vrt/nox they are coming in at 58k. Anything with a decent spec jumps from 38k sterling to 46k sterling (2019) so not much change from 70k all in. They are not depreciating as fast as we'd like even though they'll soon be 2yr old cars!

Nice motor frozen. Would you pay the money for a car check on it for peace of mind, especially a private sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,714 ✭✭✭Wildly Boaring

    Pay for cartell report
Check MOT history (this is free)
    Get insurance quotes.

    Go view
    Check vin against v5.
Make sure he has the bloody v5.
Have someone knows those bmws look at it.

    Leave a deposit.
    Sort insurance. Pay on collection.
See if he'll take a draft.
I've paid draft in sellers bank branch last couple times.

    Coming with MOT?

    Personally I think it's lovely.
But I'd not buy something that was remapped.
Even though I've mapped cars myself....

I wouldnt know where to start with getting it checked, would I just look for someone local to the seller to check it over?

Thanks for that list. Thought I might get away with seeing and buying in the same day but leaving deposit is not a bad idea to sort insurance.

Remap doesn't really put me off as long as the car would be fine when inspected. Maybe not smart of me

Will have to check mot history and do cartell.

Its got active suspension and the m performance brakes which I would have to go to UK otherwise to find a car with i think. Not really sure what else it does or doesn't have but ill find out. Don't think missing anything else would be a deal breaker for me
