Why is nobody dieing of this if it is such a deadly virus. Numbers have been high for 6 to 8 weeks now. Where is the lag.

Cork numbers are likely close contacts in the variety of clusters. Well documented in the media today how there’s clusters in care homes and work places in the city.

Hospital numbers starting to move upwards so give it time and you'll probably get your dead.

Poster in the Cork thread also mentioning a possible cluster in Skibb. Needs to be taken into account how much bigger Cork is as a county vs Dublin.

I’d say it’s the demographic who are catching it, younger healthier and not as vunerable as older people who were badly affected in spring. Plus viral load. I think viral loads are lower due to mask wearing.

This is not good enough. They’ve had months to make provisions for the upcoming winter, between test + trace and ICU capacity. I’m of the understanding our ICU capacity is barely enough in normal times never mind in a pandemic. Open to correction on that.

7 day average of percentage of cases between Dublin and the rest of country starting to show that the higher growth is easing a little in Dublin. This figure last week was averaging 56% of all cases in Dublin, this week it's trending down to 52%

Probably due to the demographic catching the virus now.

Vulnerable people still staying cautious/protected better and less vulnerable people getting relaxed so catching it.

It's a good thing if it's less deadly. Doesn't mean that we were wrong in our response to it. For vulnerable people it is still very deadly.

I know 34 seems low for Cork compared to the Dublin number but it has risen from 3, 4 or 5 to that, we all need to be careful, quite a few school cases for Cork

Cork county has ~550k population, so I guess you were looking at the city population.

So would be around ~88 when compared with the Dublin population.

It's not really surprising that the largest county and the second most populated county has cases.

Population of Dublin is a lot more than 2.5 times Cork . Closer to 9 times !
