One of my 3 year olds is wearing them in shops now. Absolutely no prompting from us. Just announced he wanted to wear one at the weekend. (I had bought them in Aldi to have in case things get a lot worse and they were sitting there).

I don't think he has much awareness of the virus but obviously something is getting through to him. Its a little sad really.

That's pretty sad to hear, there not recommend for kids. I'm sure plenty here think fair play and they'd like more of it though so i'm probably out on my own saying I don't think it's right to encourage them.

Advice on the use of masks in children
WHO and UNICEF advise decision makers to apply the following criteria for use of masks in children when developing national
policies, in countries or areas where there is known or suspected community transmissiona of SARS-CoV-2 and in settings where
    physical distancing cannot be achieved.
    1. Based on the expert opinion gathered through online meetings and consultative processes, children aged up to five years
    should not wear masks
for source control. This advice is motivated by a “do no harm” approach and considers:
    • childhood developmental milestonesb 41
    • compliance challenges and
    • autonomy required to use a mask properly.

Per 100,000 hospitalisation rate last week:
    25 counties: 0.21

    Dublin: 1.77

Would hospitalisation in Dublin be wholly from Dublin residents. Is it likely residents from neighbouring counties end up in a Dublin hospital. After all it is our capital and some of the best if not the best hospitals in the country. I know pre covid a lot of people with serious conditions could end up in a Dublin hospital due to better expertise economies of scale etc.

Yes absolutely it could . Patients from Wicklow , Kildare , Meath , and Laois would often end up in Dublin hospitals

Thanks for that. I would certainly not encourage it or mandate that other kids use them. He is very much leading on this and thats fine.

My other 3 year old has no interest and I wouldnt even try with him.

Heard that today, didn't know what business.

When you mentioned Wilton, the shopping centre was the first thing that sprang to mind.

Some cases in Carlow were hospitalised in Dublin too.

    The average of 20 and 28 = ~25
Dublin is rising rapidly, while the rest of the country has remained around the 25 mark.

    20th Sep: 28
    19th Sep: 24
    18th Sep: 26
    17th Sep: 26
    16th Sep: 25

    Am I wrong?

Sure now your moving the goal posts again.

You first said from 13th - 20th. Now its from the 16th.

Dublin is increasing. So is the rest of the country.

60+% vs 40%. Both are increasing.

I just heard that it's Tesco Wilton off someone in the HSE, it could possibly be both?

Dublin has had approx 50% of cases in last 2-3 weeks. Currently accounts for 70% of hospitalisations.

To be fair, people from much of Leinster, particularly Louth, Wicklow & Kildare, will end up in a Dublin hospital so Dublin hospital figures can’t really be specific.

You can't really use percentages increases when numbers are so low, especially comparing 8 with 23.

Yes of course you can. Why can't you?

62% in Dublin, which takes in people from most of Leinster to the hospitals

    40% everywhere else

You clearly don't get the concept of scales when it comes to statistical increases, so I'm not going to argue anymore.

I wouldn't allow it under any circumstances. I'm a few years off mine making it to secondary school so hopefully this is all anchient history by then.
There a dangerous item and lead to increased infection and transmission not just of Covid, if not used correctly. All that bacteria isn't good to have them rebreathing.

    1 to 2 is 100% increase.
Doesn't give an accurate representation of the figures.

I never said anything about where they're coming from or who they are. It's a fact that Dublin's hospitals are seeing bigger increases per capita and in actual numbers compared to the rest of the country.

You worry about your kids I'll worry about mine. He's worn it once - in a shop. Nothing inappropriate or dangerous about it.

I’m not a big fan of them “fear”-ing these conferences to be honest. They should be about media questions and nothing else.

As you would expect given its the capital city and serves many surrounding counties. I know if I had to go hospital with covid I'd prefer to go to a hospital that has treated many covid patients and has built up better expertise than a hospital with alot less experience. I live 2 hours drive from dubnlin and many people choose to go Dublin for many ailments as they are many more experienced departments/health professionals.

Which is perfectly fine. Still the fact stands, irrelevant of the reasoning behind it.

Per capita of what, people living in Dublin or people living in the areas covered by Dublin hospitals?

The first one is pretty irrelevant, even if it is a fact.

Pennys Wilton, 16 staff test +

And no clusters in shops prior to masks being mandatory

.....that would be why I said, 'that being said, it's hard to apply much in the ways of sensible trend analysis with such small numbers in the first place'...

There's enough people on this forum alone who claim it's nothing to worry about until you're either old or have an underlying illness, they need a good slap about the face of the reality.

I'm after hearing from 2 HSE workers, and I assume it's included in yesterday's figures of 36 yes. Would make sense, large increases are usually attributed to clusters.
Also lines up with the school cases. Any workers there would have kids in that area, and the schools would report those cases.
