That place sounds wonderful. I can head there tomorrow, not have to restrict movement, wear a mask or quarantine, I can go go to bars and restaurants freely and yet when I return here I have to restrict movements for a fortnight.
That’s despite the fact the place I’d be coming back from has less than half the infections per population as Ireland.

Imagine how few deaths they could have had if they implemented restrictions like the rest of the civilised world.

    Is Sweden not civilised?

    Is Sweden not civilised?

Not based on their management of the corona virus outbreak.

At least they apologised for their nursing home deaths.

Not based on their management of the corona virus outbreak.

Did they purposely place untested patients into nursing homes? Of course not forgetting the young girl with a heart condition placed on a Covid ward CGH by authorities here.

So the NPHET have their sights set on 6 more counties to be placed in Level 3 (plus whatever you're having yourself). They are said to be "very concerned" about these counties, "very concerned" indeed.

This new plan is manna from heaven to the NPHET. They can just pick a number for a county, add on whatever other restrictions they like, and get whole counties shutdown.

I can't see Dublin getting below level 3 this side of Christmas being honest. Level 4.something will be announced this week or next.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Don't be silly, it was house parties that did all that. Come on, get with the program and remember to keep on point with the governments/RTEs message.

Authorities makes it sound like the HSE directed the hospital to put that girl in the Covid ward in Castlebar. It was an entirely local decision by the bed managers and clinicians in Castlebar

Yeah right. Let us go to the rest who did not implement restrictions therefore they are uncivilized per your definition.
Like most of the Africa. No restrictions and also complete lack of any meaningful health system - yet somehow virus failed to spread like wildfire with bodies piled up on streets.
It seems this virus is deadly only for civilized mostly western countries where all indications are that attacks mainly brain capacity.

Not based on their management of the corona virus outbreak.

They have handled it very well, short term it didn't look good but long term they have it right.

There will be no second wave there, it's old news, they can plan for the future and get on with it , they have a way lower death rate then Spain, which had one of the worst lockdowns in the world - didn't help much.

And now we are all forced to wear masks here in Spain - even if we are alone in a forest - and cases are skyrocketting.

Countries like New Zealand and Australia are only delaying more spikes, wait till you see this summer (our winter) when they relax some restrictions and boom cases spike - don't think the people will be so happy being locked in their houses when its 40C outside ...

There needs to be a rapid decision made this morning and pull the opening of pubs. It’s madness opening them with cases rocketing around the country. It was an awful decision to allow them to open with cases increasing just when they picked the opening date.

The whole county needs to go to level 3 ASAP also.

I have a very worrying story to report.

A friend of mine had registered for covid test with HSE and was told to go to the test centre (this is in Kildare).

He drove in, saw a massive queue, waited 30 mins and then decided he had enough and drove back.

Then 2 days later he got a text message saying "Your covid-19 test came back negative".

Make of this what you will.

Imagine how few deaths they could have had if they implemented restrictions like the rest of the civilised world.

Imagine how few deaths we would have if no one ever left the house again or wore bubble wrap. This is a bullsh1t line nox. I'll explain to you why.

Lets say by going the whole way on lockdown they could have halved their deaths. Let's say they would have 'saved' 3,000. That is 0.03% of their population. 3 in 10,000. Now picture 10,000 people and look at the 3 oldest, sickest, frailest of them.

Now imagine Ireland. And by some miracle of psychic forbearance or time machine or something we would be in position at the start of this pandemic where we know we can either do all this cr@p that we did with all its consequences or we can do not much at all but we have to let those 3 in 10,000 go. What do you think would have happened?

And thats not even taking into account that it may well be the case that because they went without lockdown they now have a much better resistance to the virus as a population and are more or less done with their deaths while we locked down and are still much more susceptible because of it and may have 'our deaths' yet to come anyway.

The Pro restrictions crowd really don't know what to make of Sweden do they?

One lad is suggesting they are uncivilized granny killers based on their management of Covid.
Another is suggesting they have done so well because of restrictions...

The reality is, they didn't lockdown or heavily restrict their people and they are doing extremely well.

However, a number of incidents have sparked serious concern as health officials again urged the public to slash their number of social contacts.

The most high-profile was an outdoor rave near the Oliver Bond flats in the inner city, with video showing up to 100 young people dancing to loud music without social distancing. There were also other images of crowds of revellers in city-centre streets late on Saturday night.

Ahh, well, no one should be surprised. They've shut down nightclubs, pubs, even restaurants here in Dublin. Now Ronan Glynn is concerned young people are "congregating" and has asked public to "Meet half of the people you were going to meet this week".

    daft

We've got to learn to the live with virus because it isn't going anywhere in the near future.

Pubs that don't serve food have been decimated over the last 6 months they still had bills/rent to pay with no money coming in to meet those liabilities.

Have got any evidence to show that pubs are a high transmission area for the virus?

Also it's very easy to call for a further lockdown and to keep wet pubs closed when it will have no impact on your life.

What about the publicans and the staff that they employ? Do their livelihoods not matter at all?

Philip Nolan said over the weekend on Twitter that they don't know where the cases are coming from and that data does not exist. The funny thing is there is data available on the HSPC website which shows that pubs and restaurants are not responsible for the rise in cases.

Young people doing what young people have always done shocker.

Glynn can ask for whatever he wants but he has absolutely no authority to tell people what to do. This fact seems to be lost on himself and NPHET. People will invariably do whatever works best for them. Stats released a while ago showed that most people had already started to severely limit their movements prior to the official lockdown. This happens organically as most of us are well able to assess the possible risks and make that call ourselves.

The same is happening now. The CMO and NPHET can recommend whatever they want but young people in particular can see how this virus just doesn't affect their cohort in any statistically significant manner. All the preaching in the world won't stop that and having convoluted plans only makes matters worse. A simple message that everyone can follow would be far more beneficial than the current fiasco.

I'll be thinking of you having my pint this evening ;-)

Don't even drink, but doing my bit to help local owner John who gave me a job as a teen clearing glasses years ago, his labrador will be glad of the rest as well, done some walking since March

Now go back to your WFH setup and google more about Coronavirus and how dangerous it is.

If they are too stupid or ignorant to listen to advice then the law needs to step in. Large fines, criminal records, jail time etc. That will soon force a bit of cop on into these brain dead idiots who can’t just do the very simple thing of staying at home and not spreading the virus.

Rubbish, people don’t “need” to go to pubs or restaurants and they most definitely don’t “need” not is is “unhealthy” to stay away from raves and house parties. Got above people have lost the run of themselves when avoiding these things are considered “unhealthy”.

But you specifically said that people need to stay at home.

Do you think that is healthy?

After just over 6 months of unemployment I managed to secure another job this morning.
I feel extremely grateful and lucky to be employed again but I’m so anxious for the future, I’m not out of the woods yet.
If we were to go back into lockdown I have no idea if my role is secure or if they’ll just let me go.
They told me at the interview they were badly hit financially by the lockdown, even though the business was considered an essential service and remained in operation throughout.

Very easy for people who kept their jobs, kept their wage, had the distraction of work to fill their day and who enjoyed the lockdown to be pontificating about how we badly need to go back to being locked in our houses indefinitely.

The reality is very different for a lot of people. I genuinely don’t think I would be able to cope mentally, emotionally or financially if I lost a second job to restrictions/coronavirus this year.

What you have to remember is by losing your job, staying indoors, seeing very few people and going through financial and mental hell, your sacrifice has saved someone's Granny.

I think the level 3 restrictions in Dublin will have the effect of surprising any demand in the hospitality sector. No one will forearm book anything because of the uncertainty
