If they were in school last Friday, off Saturday Sunday, symptoms Monday so kept home, got tested Tuesday / Wednesday and results Thursday, it’s entirely plausible that there were no close contacts

Yeah thats the problem, not going back far enough.

There is no justification for level three everywhere in Ireland

There's no justification for any levels anywhere. Virus can't be contained with open borders, were not going to close them so let's get this friggin thing over with by going back to normal and shielding the vunrable for the next few months.

Except, of course, the contact that they got it from, which could be in the school.

WHO guidelines are to trace to 2days before symptoms

Interesting morning in Dublin. The anger is widespread. People out supporting businesses that have been decimated on short notice once again.

There’s certainly not a fear that you’d think there is from reading Boards, Twitter and FB. There’s no going back to the stay at home watching Netflix.

There’s a fish supplier (SSI) who had 30k worth of fresh stock for restaurants. They’ve decided to sell their stuff at outdoor markets as they’ve been left high and dry. I’ve never seen bigger queues for a shop or market, even during lockdown.

    Where are they selling?

They could be anywhere. Given it takes 5 to 7 days to incubate, if the person they got it off was a school contact they were likely asymptomatic, and given peak infectious period is 5 days they are likely no longer infectious, therefore impossible to trace the source.

Actually they are, they can't leave the county, people can't go to their county, they can't go to cafes, they can't go to restaurants.
I wish people would stop assuming that its only pubs that are effected by these restrictions.

People are free to travel within Dublin and to leave the county for work, education or other essential purposes.

Again, people are not expected to stay home and watch Netflix. Kh1993 is stating that people are out and about and it's no where near the level of compliance with the lockdown at the start of Covid-19 and alluding that this means people aren't being compliant with the measures.

That's completely wrong of course considering the stay at home and exercise within 5km rule only comes into play during Level 5. So it's perfectly OK for people to be out and about and getting on with their lives as best as possible.

Will we let them out for a Christmas dash to the shops? ;) All the people who are old, have diabetes, are overweight, have cancer, suppressed immunity etc etc and all the people who mind them or live with them.

    This.

We need NPHET to be disbanded and instead get advisors for the ECDC to formulate the advice to government. A common EU approach will harness the next experts rather than a misfire of administrators and others.

That’s great move the decisions even further away from scrutiny or oversight. If someone’s kid contracts it and it spreads to a class it’s already bad enough in that the decision rests with ‘public health’. There is no accountability if it all goes wrong which there is high chance it will.

Some principals are taking their responsibilities seriously and doing what is required and right for the local community rather than deferring to a body that has no stake in the community and for who their is no accountability.

The government inserting committees inbetween themselves and advisors is another examples.

What would some Dutch or danish public health official know about how many kids we stuff in a class here? No thanks.

Why use 2 different scales on charts?

Sorry used 2 different spreadsheets, didn't think of combining them.

48 hours back from Monday is Saturday.

    School wouldn't come into play.

Also postive notification - contact tracing - letter typed and sent all on Thursday morning / early afternoon?

No one is requesting that people go home and lock themselves in their houses for three weeks watching Netflix.

People aren't restricted from being out and about. There is life beyond pubs.

Serious obsession with pubs. No kids sports, no restaurants, no coffee shops, not being able to leave your county. I’d call them restrictions tbh.

It’s all about pubs to some people.

Should you not be using cases by epi date given our terrible reporting? It’s not an accurate picture.

I don’t understand why people associate closed family-run cafes and restaurants with pubs tbh

What are the hell are the Guards up to then, looks like an intimidation camping going by the news. Do they really want to appear like Government bully boys as that's exactly what there doing. It's a dangerous game.

Latest cases chart by epi date. Seems to have tailed off a tad bit. More to be added to the tail obviously due to late reporting today and tomorrow.

Utter disgrace, why don't they go sort out the crime and antisocial behaviour in our capital instead of preying on people going on a weekend excursion.

This country has lost the plot.

50000 people have lost their jobs. Yes it is very very different.

It's just propaganda, Guards will be still doing their job but they should not let the government use them as a threat. Guards need to keep people on side, this is undermining them.

Laois guards had little to at anyway.

Tailed off where? Especially given that, as you acknowledge, more remain to be added to the tail. Iirc you said people looking at 7 day averages was silly, but now three days (even ignoring the incomplete data) indicates a tailing off?
What were you saying the other day about nobody downplaying the numbers?
