A Government announcement will be made around teatime.

An exception been advised by the sub-committee for weddings this weekend, with the reduction from 50 to 25 guests likely to come in on Monday

I thought they were predicting an exponential rise in daily cases. Has been fairly constant between 200 and 300 for the last week.

The word expontial is being thrown around by TDs and RTE like confetti when its obvious they don't understand what it means.

For something like covid 19 to be exponential the R0 would need to be at least 2. There's no evidence of that at the moment. The numbers have been growing slowly over the last couple of weeks.

    Wrong, I'm afraid.

Once the R is over 1 you're in doubling territory.

Not based on data, accepted as they want to be able to hide behind NPHET when they are justifying the OTT restrictions in a few months, that they were only following the "public advice at the time". [Rhymes with runts].

Yeah. Woodbrook golf club is the Dublin/Wicklow border. The Coach Inn is in Bray but 50 feet from Corke Abbey estate which is in Dublin and makes up most of their regulars.

The last day of business for alot of Dublin restaurants quite possibly.

I honestly can't see alot of them reopening.

Serious knock on effects here to the broader economy outside of Dublin

One thing that did come up at Cabinet were that a number of First Communions were due to take place around Dublin this weekend (teachers had been warned of parents organising parties on the side).

The ceremonies themselves now may not be going ahead.

But it's the actual body and blood of 2000 year old Jesus! You cannot deny children this transubstantiation!!!

And what about the money??? The 1000+ Euros!!!?

    You monsters...

Where is God throughout all this anyway? A lot of this could be cleared up if he gave the press conference instead of Mehole.

Look just lock Dublin down, build a big fence, shoot any who attempt to escape and then it it doesn't improve after 24/48 hours drop a nuke.

Really is the only sensible solution

Have to laugh at this !
A lot of Dubs have been calling for the reverse for years now :D

Not an easy time. Look at Spain's numbers. This is for the greater good. Hospitality and covid are a difficult mix.

honestly it's very hard to know what the correct course of action is here. today is nowhere near april. actual cases are orders of magnitude lower than back then due to us catching way more cases now. however low the cases are though, they are rising, in particular in dublin. we know this thing starts from younger demographics and it will reach the more vulnerable eventually. a level 3 or whatever the hell they call it is probably appropriate, the comically bad government communication nowithstanding. i get the worry about the economy, but lives has to come first and it's not one or the other. it is a balance, and an impossible one. you will never keep everyone happy. i would rather we take a conservative approach than slow reaction and hoping for the best with fingers crossed.

as has been said from the outset, it's going to be a ****ty year and we need to get used to that. you cannot have your old lives back for a while yet and people need to deal with that. it's hardly the worst situation humanity could find itself in, far from it. if we can't deal with this we don't have much hope for the inevitable challenges humanity will face in the next couple of decades - food issues, water issues, global warming, much worse pandemics, etc

cheer up, have a beer or whatever you need, ring a friend. this will be over next year.
