    I said restrictions,

Ok....so what is shocking is that we would have heavier restrictions than any other city in Europe

    I said restrictions,
Yes but they are not talking about further restrictions on restaurants in Dublin seemingly...they are going to close them...

Nice to see Sweden had a nice flat curve and is heading downwards now.
Anything we can learn from that?

We could set up Xinjiang re-education style camps but ran by Swedes?

Sweden only release figures twice a week so it will always appear like it's rapidly trending down the days they don't release figures.

Because thats what we can control. Not allowed to control private dwellings, low hanging fruit and all that. Im not in favour of it, but its a pandemic nothing should surprise us.

Just watching Prime Time there. Its rough. NPHET have a very tough job and they're remit is to serve the public and protect their health which they do very well.

The government are trying to juggle the economics with the public health guidelines. Mind you they've ballsed up the message and communications.

A restaurateur voicing her frustrations at the constantly changing restrictions.

All legitimate views and everyone is trying to do the right thing. My concern is that our health service is not capable of dealing with a surge in this virus. It does be at breaking point every other winter.

I lost my job 2 months ago and there's no sign of a job anytime soon. I'm 40 next month, working since I was 16, and this is the first time in my life I've received a social welfare payment.

Sitting here this evening and the whole thing is completely depressing.
Really sorry to hear that, I can't imagine how tough that must be.

This is probably the most depressed I have been about the whole thing tbh as well.

The general trend is downwards though and the 'peak' was fairly flat.

Living with covid strategy is locking and unlocking. Your not really in control. You are at the mercy of the virus. This was always going to happen. Sad but true. Unless this virus is proven to be no less dangerous than flu this is what will happen.

Restrictions starting to be imposed all over the UK now.

Restrictions for Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland, Tyneside, and Durham already announced earlier today.

Point me to a city in Europe where restaurants have been closed?

    Romania has been very strict:

Yes we should be more like them. We are very different.

Their off license is run by the state and closes at 7pm on weekdays and 3pm on Saturdays.

It is, sorry to hear about your situation. I understand about the capabilities of our hospital system.
The mental health and well-being of the self employed especially in areas of high infection have been thrown under the bus. A lot of the hospitality sector are screwed! Mass unemployment in Dublin is going to happen!!

Are they closed anywhere else in europe?
Are we not the only country in europe that hasn't opened wet pubs?

Depends what you mean by open, friend of mine is in Lisbon, bars and restaurants can't serve alcohol after 8pm, another friend in Amsterdam and the city officials have banned the sale of alcohol in and around the red light distract. Now this was around three weeks ago when we last had a chat, but haven't heard that anything has changed since.

That all sounds grand to me.
I just like a lot of people would like to go out and have dinner and a glass of wine, not looking to get flipping trollied.

It would make sense in the red light district, drunk mostly tourists wouldn't be exactly helpful atm

I find it hilarious that people are blaming NPHET for 'forcing' people into mass gatherings at home. Jesus Christ people, they can only do so much and at the end of the day it comes down to personal responsibility. Not a single person outside my household has crossed my front door since March. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.

Leaving aside what one thinks is right and wrong:

What a bizarre scenario when we have a FF'er on TV arguing in favour closing businesses and a SF'er is arguing the opposite point of view.

Have you ever been to Sweden?

Like Finland (whose population get ferries every weekend to Estonia to buy trolley loads of Booze), most of the alcohol they consume is home brew wine and vodka because o the state restrictions and taxes.

They are just like us in many ways, they find ways to get around state restrictions, rules and taxes.

Do you know where the cases trend before going up?
    Down!

Their peak is a month behind the likes of the UK, so it's too early to be saying they are doing good or bad.

well I am happier, consiering the amount of 80+s in the family, as I found this today
    https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/declining-covid-19-case-fatality-rates-across-all-ages-analysis-of-german-data/

...Crude estimates of the CFR over time show that for people aged 80 and over the average CFR was 29% up to week 18, fell to 17% in weeks 19 to 27, and for mid-July onwards the CFR was 11% – a decrease of 61%.

A larger decrease is seen in the ages 60-79 with average CFR ~ 9% in March/April falling to 2% in July August. ...

Going the right way at least
