You don't live other peoples life's so it's possible not everyone finds it easy like you

Some folks would rather see there loved one in there final years than be locked up and unable to spend the last year or two in there company

Some people will lose there jobs and there houses and there relationships due to another lockdown

Don't be so self centered to belive just because it's fine for you it's fine for everyone else,

The fly vaccine been around for 80 years and is only 50% efficient why will this one be any different,

Im plagued with flies, I didnt know there was a vaccine

Sick s**t of all the negative crap in this thread!!! Dublin has the largest and most dense population it’s going to have the highest case count!
I’m not frightened or worried about it. In fact I’m not worried at all. I’m 31 the rest of my life to live and we’re being treated like children and get a tap on the wrist If we’re bold!
I have a few at risk people in my life but they’re on the same wavelength as I am. Get on with things, we’re not here for a long time but a good time!!

Very little movement on the hospital front based on the hub today, 3 in 3 out so far. Be interesting to see the report later.

I think the issue is that some people would, in fact, like to be here for a long time.

No idea , just someone claimed last night 30 year grannies are vulnerable.

By your figures we would have over 91k cases by years end so we would need to average over 640 cases a day until the end of the year. What about my yearly average stats of 1 in 28k chance of dieing from it.
They're not "my" figures. I applied what I presumed was your method for your calculation to highlight the difference between July and today. I wasn't suggesting it was a method that deserved any further thought.

Agree how many outliers do you need before they are no longer classed as outliers? Is an outlier just a number you don't agree with?

Anecdotally I think it is 7 based on my honest opinion.

When it comes to discussion of the economic and psychiatric damage caused by the restrictions on this thread there are too many out-and-out liars to ignore.

Of course there is economic damage. And damage to people's well being. But that is as a consequence of a novel virus that caught us completely by surprise.
As we have opened up after lockdown the amount of virus has slowly but steadily increased. Of late small numbers of deaths have started again and hospital numbers are increasing. Gradually the virus will start to affect increasing numbers of people more likely to be made quite ill and also more people who will die. Over the next couple of months the numbers in Intensive Care Units, general hospital and the numbers of deaths are very likely to increase to a level where it will be unconscionable for a government to allow the virus to blindly run its course and it is likely there will be serious restrictions again to curb its effect. Those in charge cannot leave an historical legacy of unfettered viral deaths and unknown future morbidity in the population.
These are all just pragmatic facts and bleats about the econony or mental health will not be able to defend against reality.
I know it is hard to believe this is the way things are. It has been tricky all the way along to make the mental adjustment to what has happened. That does not change the realness of what is, what has been and what will be. And all this is of course just my opinion. I happen to think it is reasonaby realistic. Things may change later. After Winter. Instant tests and effective medicine that disrupts the harm from the virus are what I hope for.

It amazes me the amount of people moaning about how tough life is with restrictions. First world problems for sure.
It's time all these people learned to man up, live with restrictions and accept them.
I haven't found it tough at all. I'm happy to protect myself and my family. Obviously there are things I miss but I can live without them.
If we all stfu and do the right thing for a couple of months we won't have a problem and we can go back to something near normal.
And hopefully we have a vaccine by February or March and we can all go back to doing what we want.

I had a long post ready to respond to this but deleted it as the only thing I really want to say about this post (as a SME owner is) - what a load of condescending codswallop.

Teachers in limbo. App says close contact, department says not.
Not a nice position for anyone to be in.

    Random healthcare related anecdote.

I've transported a number of young babies in recent months and I've heard several times now from SCBU and Paeds nurses that babies in their care have not learned how to smile at a normal age due to face masks.

These would be kids who wouldn't really be home for months after they're born due to health or social issues, or e.g premature babies so nurses are essentially are the only faces they see.

I don't know yet if there's any research into how this will effect development. Funnily enough one of the babies about 6months old had amazing eye expressions going on. Again, not sure if related but it'd make sense if eyes are all they are absorbing.

But it's so heartbreaking to see it. :(

edit: For the record. I'm not an anti-makser. Masks are very necessary and important.

If you mean mine I do not mean to be worrying. Just pragmatic. Tell me another way it will go and I will see if I believe that as more likely. I was chatting with some scientists from different disciplines today and they were generally in agreement that the virus is not going anywhere for a while.

If grannies are now thirty something, that means MILFs must now be twenty something. Woohoo!

exactly this isn't going to magically end with a vaccine. this will slowly but surely become the status quo for us

The fact you think that has to do with the outlier discussion shows you have no idea what you're on about.
