Of course they distanced themselves from it... I will remind you of this article in a few weeks.

I thought you said it was imminent, now it's a few weeks, make up your mind.

Knit picking now. Europe is locking down.

Oh, it's now Europe locking down, it's getting hard to keep up with you at this stage.

Personally I just think we are realizing this virus can't be stopped without a vaccine. The vast majority I see are adhering to the guidelines and those that aren't are not significant enough in numbers.

Cases are out of control in France and Spain there isn't any talk of lockdown.
Sweden is the most stable in Europe.

We can't keep locking down and opening back up. We can't lockdown until we find a vaccine either.

But some level of suppression is realistic until a vaccine/better treatment is available given that their has been alot of progress made on both in a short space of time and uncertainty regarding immunity and Long Covid. The only countries that seem to be functioning are in Ssia and NZ atm. Sweden I believe functioning with 60% economy. Until society feels safe and transmission rates are low the economy will continue to suffer sadly.

I was a primary school teacher and when I taught a class of 30 junior infants, even with the most on the ball classroom management (which often involved call and respond songs, not possible now) it would have been an impossibility to ensure that every single child was not picking their nose or interacting with a child outside of their group at every single moment. Be reasonable, the task is an impossibility.

Unless they let them use a cane or whatever the other poster suggested, but I'm pretty sure the cure is worse than the disease when you recommend physically assaulting children to get them to comply.
I was more referring to a poster saying teachers were still hugging students and standing over their desk etc...
Hard to have all kids being responsible all the time, I'd expect the teacher to be at the very least.

No it doesn't. They are allowing 1000 fans at a football match tomorrow night and more games on Saturday

    Haven't a clue tbh.

Restrictions on the rise in europe.

Can see our whole country in lockdown in a few weeks.
There are no more full lockdowns on the way. There may certainly be tightening of restrictions in terms of moving around and having visitors, but the economic impact of closing all non-essential business is too much for any government.

Unless we see army trucks full of dead bodies, people will not accept a full lockdown again. We already know that the biggest risk is socialising, that's where the restrictions will be focussed most.

Ok, it's not great but it does feel like it's not shooting out of control, and that's a huge number of tests.

I like your optimism, but NPHET can and will raise the Level alert, I predict a full lockdown before Christmas, if not nationwide then in Dublin....

It wasn't too much for the Israeli government.

Most govs will of course fiercely resist another lockdown, but as we're nowhere near through this I'd be cautious with such certainty

You seem very sure of yourself. Nobody thought two weeks ago Dubliners would be asked not to leave their county. Level 5 is effectively lockdown. Doctors in Dublin saying their county should be going straight to level 4. How far is Dublin from level 5. If trajectory doesn't change soon, relatively quickly.

If there is a full lockdown it will be at the Halloween break for schools which would be extended up to two weeks.

Beware of interpreting one day's totals. 5, 7 or 14 day data is far better.

You’d expect somewhere in the region of 210-230 today if swabs are gone by

Yes, it's dropping a bit if anything. Feeling more optimistic now! Would love if it could stabilise for a while and we could all feel a bit less panicky...

I think most would regard the definition of restricting movements as virtual self isolation

    https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/managing-coronavirus-at-home/if-you-live-with-someone-who-has-coronavirus.html
    How to restrict your movements
Restricting your movements means avoiding contact with other people and social situations as much as possible.

    Don't
    Do not go to work.

    Do not use public transport.

Do not have visitors at your home.

Do not visit others, even if you usually care for them.

Do not go to the shops or pharmacy unless it's absolutely necessary - where possible, order your groceries online or have some family or friends drop them off.

Do not meet face-to-face with older people, anyone with a long-term medical condition or pregnant women.

You can still go outside to exercise by yourself as long as you keep 2 metres distance from other people.

True, and I wouldn't read anything into 1 day. But big numbers of tests today and yesterday and stable or falling positivity rate. Just trying to look on the bright side :)

Briefing last night was straight out of March so it's understandable.
