Why the fear of digital? I find it's much cheaper in the long run.

I will pick one up after Xmas on amazon.

How does preordering on Argos work is it like reserving on there website?

Wake up early on the day and enter the lotto. Staff will take any they get / or their friends. You will need to reserve them early on the day if there is stock showing on site to have a chance but doubt they will allow reservation on them.

You can only preorder on Argos UK. On Ireland, you can reserve when the website updates usually from midnight the night before but some games i was looking for before won't go live til 7am. Be right dodgy going that route as staff will get first dibs and you'd basically want to pull an all nighter pressing f5.

Think I may wait till next year to get one...

When is the earliest in 2021 do you think you could pick one up?

Im assuming they'll be sold out for a while.

Probably January 1st looking at next year's calendar.

Is Amazon UK actually any cop for pre-ordering here or would it most likely result in out of stock messages or late deliveries (if I'm lucky)?

Will probably go with Smyths, always said Demon's Souls would be the system seller for me, and always looking for another excuse to play DMC5 for the 50th time (hello Vergil!)

Dropped the ball a bit on the PS4 launch, meaning a lot of customers didn't get their consoles till the day after release (courier deliveries were organised for a Saturday IIRC).
Looking back, that's not bad going albeit a bit frustrating back then after they insisted on launch day delivery.

I don't think its unfair to say Amazon have been slipping of late in general so I'd argue Smyths represent the best option if launch day/week is important to you. Gamestop sold out now, but I'd suspect a lot of the pre-orders gone tonight probably won't be fulfilled on launch day anyway, plus they will place a standing charge immediately.

How in the world is it cheaper in the long run?

Disc copies of the games drop in price much faster than Digital.

For anyone going the Argos route, I got my PS4 there on launch as I couldn’t get a pre-order anywhere so late. Staff were explicitly forbidden from buying up any of the stock (knew someone there at the time), they told me to be online early in the morning to get a reservation. They went live at around 7am and I got mine reserved at 7:15. Rocked up half an hour before opening, and they honoured it, no hassle at all.

Be warned though, another guy turned up with no pre-order and he blagged his way into getting one himself, so someone else would’ve missed out on theirs. If you do go around it this way, make damn sure you’re there comfortably before opening time.

And you can trade them in

Shuhei Yoshida posted a screenshot on twitter that demons souls remake is €80 😳

Surely this can't be the new norm for video game prices.

But I don't have to get up and switch discs.

US prices are always excluding sales tax.

You're totally right on that - at least at retail. I had completely forgotten they still do the "magic trick" of applying taxes at the till over there.

I put my name down for one in Smyths now anyway. Still not totally sure if I want one on launch so will decide closer to the day haha

Ordered from smyths but no email yet? seems like credit card went through - got email!

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,912 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Will preorder an decide later. I know it's a crap thing to do, but I hope they give more info closer the time.

As for digital vs physical, the main advantage is options. Can buy digital if I want. Plus, like I said before, handy for doing up your Santa list instead of asking for vouchers. :)

I don't suppose there's a way of pre-ordering with Smyths but paying off with One4All vouchers in the meantime? I presume if you're preordering online, you just have to do it with your card?
