It's probably been asked and answered multiple times by now, but this thread moves at 100 miles an hour so I may ask again.

Are people 'advised' not to leave Dublin, or not allowed to leave Dublin? The official answer if there is one, not opinion. Thanks in advance.

Didn't they know there'd be a spike from school reopening
Plus every single time the place is lockdown and reopens numbers will rise,

So do we just keep locking down and reopening and rince and repeat?

The GP representative at the top table there just said the reopening of schools had been hugely successful
It's at about 100 schools out of 4000 with cases. Judging by comments on the schools thread GPs are booking kids for tests by the dozen.

The rest of the country is on a similar trajectory to Dublin - Ronan Glynn.

I'm just trying to get the direct quotes in before it'll be spun as Glynn only being concerned about Dublin.

The comparison to road deaths is a interesting one, 19 people died but nobody really gives a **** but 14 die from covid and its the end of the world. And before people say road deaths are not contagious they could easily be reduced by lowering speed limits, increased fines etc but why don't we do it. Why is a covid death more important than any other death.

The interesting thing about road deaths is exactly how much work has been put into reducing them. From licensing to policing to road design. The huge safety efforts by car makers. The ad campaigns. We have spent a hundred years trying to reduce the cost in lives.

It's totally disingenuous to suggest no one cares its just the cold calculus of life that we accept a certain level of deaths for the huge boon that is motorised transport.

Government sat on their arse for the past week, sure what's a week with cases rising as they are.
Nip it in the bud early with less restrictions is better than waiting a week and needing more harsh restrictions.

If Dublin was dealt with 2-3 weeks ago we wouldn’t be seeing these numbers now. Complete incompetence.

If we tested the processing plants and provision camps before we opened up we'd be in a great position now, unfortunately hindsight is a wonderful thing. Probably too late too do it all again now

19 people died on our roads last September, time to shut them down too.

True and its mostly the old that will die with Covid and they're probably on the way out anyway.

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/cf1f3-special-measures-in-place-for-dublin/

Given concern over the incidence of COVID-19 in Dublin, and based on NPHET’s recommendations, Cabinet has agreed that the following additional measures will apply in the county:

    • no more than two households should meet at any given time. Socialising can continue at indoor or outdoor public venues, but only with people from your own household or one other household, and in groups of maximum 6 people
    • pubs and bars not serving food should remain closed beyond 21 September
    • the number of people who can attend sports matches and events is capped at 100, irrespective of venue size
    • higher and third level institutions should consider enhanced protective measures
    • those living in Dublin should be encouraged to limit travel outside the region, and only meet 1 other household when outside the county

Some people can’t get the fact schools are open and aren’t closing into their heads.
What's the logic closing schools? Close schools so the general public can keep their social contacts high at the cost of kids education, development and mental health.

It's pretty clear what needs to be done. Reduce social contacts. Don't believe we have heard that as a clear and coherent message from government.

    All up to us now!

Govt: We're all in this together.

Govt: Please book Staycations from 1st October and get tax back.

Fine Gael yesterday: "Ireland is moving from a short-term emergency response approach to a medium-term approach to managing risk and repairing the damage that Covid19 has inflicted on society."

Govt: Continue the damage that Covid19 has inflicted on society by cancelling all your bookings for Staycation if you're in Dublin.

Have they actually even said what needs to be done? Everything is tut tut tut and not: “people are catching it in x,y,z by doing a,b,c, can everyone be careful about 1,2,3”

So, if I limit my travel outside Dublin, but choose to go on my booked staycation, can I stay in a hotel? Only myself and the wife going. Or is that "meeting" with more than 1 household if there are other guests?

Some people can’t get the fact schools are open and aren’t closing into their heads.

Correct. But it's also true that most governments have now decided that most things are not going to close and some people can't get that fact into their heads. Lockdowns or even meaningful restrictions are a thing of the past.

Aren't we stíl lthe most restricted country in Europe?
And lots of the capitals are currently worse than Dublin

It's like they've been freed to deliver the message firmly by the new arrangement. The appropriate voices in government are just no good at this stuff at all.

With contact tracing, are you allowed notify close contacts you can remember yourself? If you're providing their info anyway, surely better they find out asap and then hear officially from contact tracers at later date?
