I know. I've seen Ken Burns Prohibition documentary.

I mean short term measure to limit the house party's.

At best people would go to NI and government loose a lot of revenue. Many businesses would close also. More chance of winning lotto I'm afraid.

George Lee back to his usual "prophet of doom" worst this evening. I know things are bad, but this was just cringeworthy and beyond scaremongering. Absolutely no need for this from the former Fg deputy.
He hardly merits that title given how little time he was in the Dail!

they say they won't decide on moving to level 3 till tmw, so todays press conference is going to be a lot of non-answers

Cabinet can't meet tíll Tuesday possibly Monday, So tdoubt there be any changes untill the cabinet meets

No, they could just announce it on Friday based on NPHET deliberations. It's probably borderline as it stands.

If they open pubs and ban alcohol in supermarkets no one will go to NI to buy cans and spirits, except the truely desperate.

A total alcohol ban definetly won't work .Regulated pubs are better than unregulated house party's but you can't have both going on together.

Alcohol shouldn't be sold in Supermarkets anyway but profit is king

Funny hearing what happens in these big hot spots in France! Looks like it is about our Level 0 or 1!!!

No standing at the bar, restricting gatherings to 10 and strict masking wearing.

We are totally missing the point on this here and really havent moved on by the looks of things

I remember back in the late '90s and early' 00s when George was the economics correspondent of RTE news and he was a figure of fun for many years because he didn't go around cheerleading for the economy and talking up how great we were.

They called him a "prophet of doom" then aswell.

When did George Lee become NPHETs spokesman and their PR man?

Which they can do if required.

Perspective there are aprox. 1 milion 500, hundred thousand house holds in Ireland, keep up whatever your anti covid measures are and don't stigmatize other households who test positive, you may not know their situation

    Can't do that.

Have to meet first to discuss it. It would be a massive decision to take. Can't just do it on a whim. It's the capital! Everything goes through it!

Any other county and it would be in phase 3/4 right now

Seriously though, where would the very severely addicted alcoholics go to get their alcohol if they are restricted by pub time limitations etc? They would all end up in the emergency departments with Immediately life-threatening delirium tremens.

The mood music is nudging towards it with the rise in Dublin cases and they'd be able to justify it. If they feel they need to act immediately the annoyance would pass quickly enough. If they wait there's that rabbit hole again of putting people at risk!

Or the CMO is doing additional prep for the inevitable questions about the minister of health Dáil suspension debacle yesterday.
