I had a look at that and similar graphs. It's not immediately obvious how they defined a critical care bed but other stats I found, hint that you are correct. I can edit the post previously to remove the incorrect info if you wish.

I just don't believe the graph, however its the only comparative data we have to go on

You formed that opinion after 24 hours?

It's pretty clear that NPHET have been sidelined for a number of weeks now, since they were "scaring the bejaysus" out of people

And now we're tackling a grave situation by not opening the few pubs that aren't already open.

    Genuine question.
If two people not currently living together get married, are they obliged to maintain ‘social distancing’ during the ceremony.
And how do they, (ahem), consummate their union while maintaining ‘social distancing’?

Would need to be done in a bubble I believe

Really? Just shows how clueless you are. I worked through the whole lockdown since March. Travel restrictions didn’t apply to me for most part, i basically wasn’t in lockdown. Mixed with the public too due to the nature of my work and did everything possible to keep myself safe and others. It worked i never caught the virus.

I hope that NPHET do still release their advice so that we can see how much of it the Govt decide to follow.
If I know NPHET they'll remain a very vocal voice of reason. Fair dues Glynn from turning it around since Tony left, he's very obviously fighting the good fight against all adversity (and by jaysis there's adversity coming at him now).

Close everything so there's nowhere to go and nothing to do. You won't be able to go outside cause it's winter.

People have two options then, social isolation or going to their friends' houses.

And sorry lads but we're now around six months in with some pessimistic vaccine estimates at 2024, prolonged isolation = torture. There is psychiatric literature on this for people who pretend they don't get it.

For women whose fertility window will close in the next few years they won't pass on their genes if they are strict about following these restrictions. Since you're all scientifically-minded on here you will know that means that the restrictions are objectively biologically maladaptive.

Peak was in April and both the second wave and the theoretical restrictions are only a dream. "But, being awaked, I do despise my dream"
Like, we're all aware of the grave ramifications of this continuing (socially, economically etc). Of course the inclination is to forget about safety measures and just take our chances but the reason that we don't is that the health ramifications will be as bad for social and economic progress and then some. You have to weigh up the cost of either course and both outcomes are undesirable but preventing against it running riot will actually have a less damaging impact.

You're obviously in some way negatively affected by lockdown, as it's clear you're completely against one regardless of the need for one or not. You do nothing but shut down anyone with an opposing view and paint them as lunatics at every chance you get.

Nobody wants a lockdown but it just takes common sense to see we might need something similar soon.

14 In ICU now and 66 in Hospital
An increase of +1 on both figures compared to the HSE report last night.

Will be interesting to see the number of community referrals for Monday gone, when the HSE testing and contact tracing dashboard is updated later.

What I find interesting in that letter outside the stats and commentary, is that he always refers to it the "The NPHET". To me this indicates an understanding the far from being a stand alone monolithic organisation, the use if "The" reflects that "The NPHET" is a specific body set up for a specific purpose, and any authority they have is purely at the grace of DOH and government

More rubbish, i was in no way negatively effected by lockdown. Like i said the lockdown for me didn’t apply to me for most part. I do love these online psychology reports.

As for trying to shut down someones opposing view, show me posts where i did so?

It seems whenever someone posts anything positive on this thread there’s a cohort on here that are lining up to do their best to try and tear it apart. Some people revel in misery.

You've just done it a few pages back, describing someone as frothing at the mouth, rocking back and forth.

You're doing it to anyone who goes against your view on things, labelling it negative and miserable.

You can't hack discussion so you shut it down as you're afraid of factual information going against your rose tinted view.

If Dublin moves to Level 3, "Wet Pubs" can open.

I don't think I have ever seen such a hyped document become so obsolete so fast.

The fact of the matter they are people loving the drama of this. It’s been mentioned on this by other posters too, it’s plain obvious. You can clearly tell who they are because they try to bash any positive post. There’s people promoting lockdowns for different agendas. We even have treehuggers patting Covid 19 on the back. Maybe they should pat the backs of the families of the million that are dead worlwide.

Rose tinted view? More expert pyschology? Wrong. I take every precaution out there. I even wear masks and have no problem with it. Your assumptions are wrong again.

I don't know if it's just me but I know a lot of elderly people who are refusing to follow any guidelines, not wearing a mask, not restricting their movements or social contacts, not social distancing when they meet friends and the thought of being cocooned again is just not going to cut it with them.
Can't say I blame them with public health dubbing anyone over the age of about 65 as vulnerable and some of them have more vigour than people half their age. They are also a lot more at peace with their own mortality.

So what exactly is in Level 3?

I checked a graphic in the Times this morning and Wet Pubs can remain open with restrictions in Level 3, yet they are not allowed to open in level 2.5.

So if we move to level 3 can they open?

So even if we move to level 3, will restaurants be open, or will it be outside dining/takeaways only?

Trying to plan something for this weekend!

Level 3 has less restrictions than level 2.5.

A number of these positive posters claimed that we wouldn't get near the situation we currently have now again, so were these "negative" people not right for calling them out at the time?

These "negative" people seem to have been right so far but the goal posts are moved any time the case numbers go up.

Remember the gloating the days in July we had single-digit figures. Then they were in the 20s and everything was still "brilliant". We were saying "Yeah but when it's close to 100 will you finally take this seriously again?" Now it's probably going to get close to the thousands if we manage to test effectively. It's going to be the deaths climbing again that's the worst thing. I'm hysterically foaming at the mouth just thinking about it.

Not really but I am staggered by the lack of action and the continued indifference of some (not many) people.

I passed by a primary school yesterday and I was momentarily surprised to see all the kids out in the schoolyard running around or standing in groups chatting, (screaming), to each other. No masks or social distancing. In fact everything looked normal. Not ‘new normal’, just normal.
What surprised me is that it’s the first time I have seen this kind of normality in months. It was great to see. At least the kids have sense.

Oddly a fairly succinct description of their thought process! That and to demonstrate that the government is wresting control of the disease management from NPHET.

I’m not talking about them posters. I’m talking about other positivity. Treatments, vaccines, worldwide deaths dropping etc. You then have posters on here that will only scour the net and twitter for any bad news, pathetic.the same posters will only put likes on negative posts and never on the positive posts. Makes you wonder.....

Some people think it's important to have different sides of the fence on board and not just an echo chamber of good news stories.
