I know people try to make the comparison to the amount that people pay for their phones and the cost of a console but I think that's pretty much a bullshít comparison. A phone is going to be a lifestyle accessory in a way that a console can never be to the average person. Also, most people get their phones on plans so they are not shelling out the cost upfront so even though they will get screwed by their network provider over the course of the plan, they don't get that massive sting at the beginning.

I'd say the difference with a console and a phone though is night and day. You might get a new phone every 2 or 3 years because of the plan and upgrades you're due, a console will last nearly a decades worth of use.

Consoles are also pretty much inflation proof. A new iPhone or Samsung, top of the range would cost circa €900-1000 if you went ready to go and prices have increased steadily the last decade or so.

Console prices, for what you're getting, if you consider inflation, have been remarkably low, IMO.

that is very true though if MS had that all access running in Ireland series X sales would be through the roof especially with all the ****e going on at the moment

One thing to keep in mind though about the "clueless parents" is that this is a rapidly diminishing demographic. Games have only gotten bigger and bigger over the last few decades and the mainstream hype of SNES vs MegaDrive or even PSX vs N64 vs Saturn were huge and games became very mainstream. Vast majority of parents now would be familar with games and concepts such as "Little Timmy wants a Playstation because the games he wants are only on Playstation". While I can see some parents not understanding the digital subscriptions etc, I'd be surprised if we had many parents coming in saying " I need a video game box, price is the only denominator".

On a side note, I'm hoping for the following tonight:
1. PS Now update - I think this needs to evolve more
2. 2 more PS5 launch titles (I just need to nail down my options for Day 1 purchase and nothing grabbed me yet)
3. Prices and release dates
4. Plans on how the migration of digital libraries will carry forward.

Definitely see the Series S being the big winner this Christmas. If I was buying a console myself this Christmas I'd probably go for it to try out GamePass. And yes I know it's not going to be comparable to the Series X or PS5.

Honestly, how many people are going to buy a €1,000 phone on pre-pay? The vast majority are people on contracts.

If a kid acts like that, they don't deserve to have any money spent on them. Honestly, if one of my kids went into a strop over getting a new console for Christmas because we couldn't afford to get them the one that was €200 dearer, I'd return the one they got and they could go without.

For me, something like a PS5 would have to be an all-family present. I couldn't justify, or afford, shelling out €500 on one child for one present.

I agree with ya, most parents now a days will have had some exposure to a console at some stage so would in general have an idea.

But it will have to be driven by their kid saying my friends are playing this console I want you/santa to get me this console please.

There'll still be people caught out, I'd imagine more so by the Series S over the Series X.

Minecraft and FIFA included in Game Pass and then Fortnite is free. I never hear my little cousins mention any other games.

My guess for the pricing is €400/€500 for the Digital/Disk versions. Don't think they could go any lower than that for the digital, and a €100 difference seems about right. Don't think they'll want to go much more than the Series X so they'll go 500 aswell.

Few random predictions for tonight:

- Miles Morales gameplay. Seems fairly likely if that's presumably a launch title, very little of it shown so far
- Maybe a long shot but maybe Demons Souls announced for launch. Either way the launch line up should become more clear.
- An update/upgrade on PS Now, maybe bundled with Plus like others say.
- A teaser of a big 1st party game that won't be out for a couple of years, GOW2 maybe.

And the big one...

- GTA V next gen gameplay :pac:

while that is true the differences between fifa on a series S and ps5 wont be worth 200 or so euro.

shelling out 500 euro for a kid for a series x/ ps5 to play on a non 4k probably non hd screen is idiotic tbh. kids wont need to update for their fifas/ call of dutys or anything else for a long time.
