Don’t take my word for it

    - Restricted movements

You are advised to restrict your movements for 14 days if you:

are a close contact of a confirmed case of coronavirus
live with someone who has symptoms of coronavirus, but you feel well
arrive into Ireland from a country that is not on the COVID-19 green list - this list is reviewed regularly based on advice from officials including public health experts and will be updated if needed

If you are a close contact of a confirmed case you have to restrict your movements for 14 days even if your test comes back negative. This is because it can take up to 14 days for the virus to show up in your system after you have been exposed to it.

Schools go back, the number of new cases rise. It was to be expected.

They've been rising since mandatory masks were introduced in retail, people back hanging around in shops, not cleaning their hands and not keeping their distance.
    It's not schools/creches.

With all the measures being taken - social distancing, mandatory face-covering, provision of hand sanitiser - why are so many people in Dublin still being infected with the virus?

Even if it is schools what’s the alternative?

Funny how there is a suspected case in the Dail and the whole place goes into knee jerk lockdown, the exact thing they said would not be done with schools, oh the double standards are beyond funny. MM then rows in with the Dail continuing with junior ministers, as they would be hammered for it otherwise.

There's very little growth if any in hospitals outside of Dublin (42 of 64 last night in Dublin), so I very much doubt that.

I am talking about countrywide .

Because people are relaxing when socialising in groups. These measures are only really in place in large gatherings with strangers

Rang the GP for my 10 year old daughter at 9am this morning, and was told they're so busy call back wouldn't be til the afternoon. Got call about 3pm, but in fairness she was referred and we had an appointment within 20 minutes.
Was at the Aviva at 6pm, and my god the queues were huge (a friend got tested at Vincents yesterday, said there were only two or three cars). Army administering the whole thing, and they did a fantastic job. Despite the queue we were through in 35 minutes.

Despite what I'd read earlier, she did get a deep nasal swab though. Now we wait!

I agree with all of that. But I do think that the message MM and SD have to deliver is more complicated and less stark. In a sense the messaging delivered by LV and SH was much more black and white and people weren't as tired listening to it.

Though Leo is a master in fairness. How he's managed to keep the stink of every bad government decision off him - The Tainiste! - and have it always associated with FF is pretty amazing.

He stepped away at just the right time.
You'd have to wonder if the timing of forming the coalition was pre-planned ;)

It was also up and down from 6 to 12 earlier in the summer. In terms of managing numbers it's fine.

During the summer we did not have rising cases and community transmission, outside of ICU.
These numbers are doubling every fortnight now.

There is none, schools are staying open no matter what. Quicker it flushes through them now the better, that's if it already hasn't back between November and February.

Yes, I see quite a few wearing face coverings, less wearing the more effective "medical" masks, and people are at times rather lax about social distancing in supermarket aisles. My nearest Supervalu on Southside Dublin has very narrow aisles where close encounters happen all the time, and virus may be getting through the flimsy face covers worn.

The analogy would be sending all the front of house staff home because all the kitchen staff were out. They found a few waiters who claimed they could cook a bit though so everyone is coming back. don’t think I would like to eat in that restaurant however.

Do you remember when L. Varadkar became Health Minister in 2014?

One of the first things he did was make an emotional statement about all the people suffering stuck on trolleys. From then on the crisis of numbers on trolleys was never blamed on him unlike all the previous Health Ministers, M. Martin included.

The problem with this is that anyone over the age of 12 should be able to see that he's engaging in a kind of emotional anchoring and resist it. Instead people lap it up which is how he rose to the top job.

I suppose people's selfishness and desire to get pissed at a wedding comes before the health of others. That's why we had 300+ cases today

That was fast. My adult daughter hasn’t been well since yesterday, has been self-isolating at her home and rang gp reception this morning with symptoms of cough and temperature. No call back from gp yet!

Vaccine is on the way. Treatments and testing improving rapidly. We are in for a tough few months but I think we'll start to see vaccinations in January and improved testing and treatments having an effect then too. We should have gone for zero covid back in March but at this stage we might as well hang on.

Mad to think this is all kicking off again in Europe just as winter approaches,almost1000 COVID deaths in Europe in the last 48 hours, could that timing really just be coincidence or could it be a seasonal illness?

Theres no legal restrictions right now.
    Just advisory.
Some fussy hotels might start cancelling bookings from Dublin addresses though.
