So I make it Dublin accounting for 61 % of the cases announced today. And explain to me again how Dublin is level 2 again ? I don’t care what county it is in the country if it needs to go into lockdown it needs to be be in lock down. It worked for Kildare, Offaly, and Laois.

A lockdown in Dublin isn't going to do anything but harm businesses. People will follow the guidelines if they want.

Anyone who cannot see that we are heading in the wrong direction have their head in the sand. Hospital and ICU admissions rising and it's only September. If cases keep rising at this rate where will we be in Nov/Dec??Absolutely nothing positive about today's numbers.
The only real concern is the rise in cases and that we now have cases in the very elderly once again. Hospitals and ICU are still very much OK.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but it is a fact that there's always high numbers the day of these big announcements

But at same time today was a day where they didn't go as far as people seemed to expect. They left Dublin essentially as it was.

I didn't see it, but did he cough DURING his section?

If no, then I wouldn't believe the 'apparently' bit you often hear.

There's no way he'd be coughing and spluttering before his piece then suddenly be able to stop it when it suited him.

I’ve watched again from start until the media asks questions so just over 20 mins.

He takes a drink of water when they arrive.

8:18 mins in, camera is on MM as he is speaking and I hear a small cough from near MM’s vicinity.

11:03 mins in, camera moves to Leo as he starts to speak and there is a louder cough nearby.

12:24 mins in, louder cough nearby again

The above coughs are very short not prolonged.

15:34 & 15:55 mins in, camera on Leo and can hear a clearing of throat.

16:12 mins in, camera on Leo. Can hear another clearing of throat but sounds like someone else.

16:40 mins in. Camera moves out and then onto SD and he clears his throat twice. Doesn’t cough or sound weird all through his speech. Takes drink at the end.

I wouldn’t have took much notice watching live at the time. Hope he’s ok.

i really don't get this conspiracy angle. the most politically advantageous situation for the government would be that this thing is 100% under control and it's basically beaten. why on earth would they want to paint a completely opposite picture?

I'm guessing the thinking is that it's easier to introduce restrictions if they are accompanied with high numbers.

Yes, but today’s number is relatively legitimate. 310 positive swabs in last 24 hours is huge.

No to Enda by the way.

Some are saying he was coughing on a radio show @ 9:20am this morning.

357 new cases today with 218 of them in Dublin? What the holy fcuk are the Dubs doing? Are they neglecting social distancing and mask wearing etc? 139 for the rest of the country. I know Dublin is more populated and they are all on top of each other and there's more in the city and there just more happening in Dublin.

It's a lot of new cases all around.

Dublin is a disaster zone for SD. On my way home today gangs of schoolkids on top of each other, throngs of people by the coast this past weekend etc... No sense of community or in this together attitude from its citizens.

How it hasn't been put into level 3 at the very least I'll never know.

    Who isn't following guidelines?

As they stand, these guidelines are doing nothing to suppress the virus. Don't blame the people living in Dublin, blame the virus and its ability to spread.

That number is small now, but look at the underlying trends. Hospital admissions are rising, slowly but steadily - and the rate of increase is increasing.

It's also a pattern being replicated all over Europe at present.

    You've answered your own question.

I don't think people in Dublin are doing any less social distancing than anywhere else. It's just you get away with it more in other towns / cities because there's fewer people.

We only have 537 ICU beds.

Its pathetic how few we have.

Interestingly some of the poorer country in Europe like Romania are up at the higher end.

Look at the numbers and come back to me.

Yes it has happened for every major restriction announcement.

And 2 days of 50 and 52 pre Kildare opening. The following day when opened up 217.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,029 ✭✭✭um7y1h83ge06nx

I think there is a strong anti restriction sentiment in Dublin and that overall it might be better for the country as a whole if they don't introduce restrictions to Dublin and I think the opening of wet pubs in Dublin should happen as well.

Otherwise you could see instances of plenty of people in Dublin going for weekends away around the country so they can go for pints etc and then the issue will just spread.

No truck with FF at all, least of all those who chose to go into the coven from Independence, but FF welcomed these people in.

    But we are all exposed.

My wonder is that everything will be closed down now in Cabinet, or wherever the heck he was.

But my spidey senses hope he is is fine, but this is an opportunity to keep them all out of sight. Sorry for that now, cannot help it.

In relation to SDs suspected Covid status, isn’t it very convenient that the entire cabinet can now avoid answering questions on their mish-mash of a plan and the car-crash of a presentation of it.
Has Covid now mutated into a different strain called Political Covid?

While the hospital numbers at the moment are obviously quite 'high' it's worth noting that current numbers are about 7% of peak.
