.. then the restrictions will be extended and prolonged for much longer than they need to be.

Wait a sec - aren't the restrictions going to be in place until a hoped-for-but-indefinite vaccine arrives anyway?

I don't get how house parties and young healthy people getting the virus affect clinical processes?

Asking people to put life on hold indefinitely is simply asking too much. You can't blame people for not walking with the government on this when the goal is fuzzy or unobtainable and the downside is bottomless.

When they start infecting older and more vulnerable people, then it affects clinical processes.

I really believe the communication of the "Plan" has been extremely poor

I would wager if you stopped 100 people on a Dublin Street and asked them what the current restrictions are very few would answer correctly oh sure they would guess and have a go but would not be sure this clearly shows the message is not being communicated properly

Government needs to fill Advertising Hoardings with exactly what applies at the moment also a full-scale Social media campaign needs to be undertaken

It's on the front page of the government's website.

So what I said that if you stopped 100 people not many would be able to tell you and that to me shows the message is not being delivered properly

How many young people check the "Governments Website" come on

Why would you stop people on the street?

Anyone who wants the information has no excuse in not looking it up.

Putting up posters on the walls won't change that.

We will have to wait until his string pullers tell him what to say.

It's the lads pulling the mikeys off themselves at the thought of indefinite lockdowns that I'd be far more concerned about.

    ****ing pathetic.

Haha the poster I quoted suggested Covid had a fatality rate of 3.4%.

:pac: Its not that high John

Do the mods need to put a warning that this isnt a "safe place" for those easily offended?

    A utopia of total normality.

I could wager a guess they will see an influx of tourists never seen before

Mainly the mentally deranged ones. So that being the case may we expect you to be travelling there soon?

And what makes you think this will not happen?

Well there have been restrictions in place for 6 months now and it hasn't yet

Yep they got it over and done with and now have a 14 day incidence of 22/100k and dropping rapidly.

We are sitting on 49 and rising despite our high death toll we didn’t let enough of the healthy population get it to control exponential growth after lockdown ended.

Yes but the Swedes obey the rules you won't see any pubs packed over there with Covid restrictions being ignored

    My parents are vulnerable.

They currently have very poor quality of life. They know they need to protect themselves if they want to avoid this.

The rest of the country having huge restrictions does nothing for them.

    Just ruins other people's lives.

But you don't care about the rest of us.

    Bully for you.

Nonsense. Vulnerable people will be safest if there is low levels of community transmission. My parents are over 60 and my mother had lung cancer. They feel safe enough going out to shops and restaurants at the moment because levels of community transmission where they live are low so I’d say their quality of life is reasonably good at the moment. That would change if community transmission continues increasing where they live. I don’t want them to have to stay indoors 24/7 and I am prepared to make sacrifices so they and others like them don’t have to cocoon because it’s no life.

The restrictions are fairly manageable, don’t be such a child. It’s a pity this country is full pussies who can’t see beyond the ends of their own noses and are capable of nothing but whinging.

So are pubs restaurants cinemas theatres but with strict social distancing being observed

Excuse me? There have been plenty of advertising campaigns on social media, TV/radio, newspapers, booklets etc for months now. The fact that some people have chosen to ignore it doesn`t change that.

If healthcare staff followed the rules and wore masks they wouldn't have killed all those nursing home people. If meat plants weren't given the support of the government to breach rules we wouldn't be in such a mess. I assume you are part of the above groups when you talk of this "we" who should've followed the rules?

I read an article a few weeks back saying that social distancing is essentially over in Sweden. I have no idea what the truth is.

I will say this though, the stereotype of the well-behaved Swede goes a long way in people's estimations of things.

You ever been clubbing in Stockholm? It’s not like coppers :pac: it’s like everything else, they are open but capacity is tightly controlled and even before coronavirus you would never find a bar or club that would be packed to the rafters the way we used to pack them here and in the UK. It’s a very different society. They’ve done very well though if you don’t mind the higher death rate. it’s a pity their approach wasn’t an option for us.

Oh yeah the old ‘The Swedes are better than us’ argument.

You must have a low opinion of yourself.

If the vast majority of people don't know the rules then there's a problem whether its there fault or not there's a problem and todays Press Conference was a disaster level 2 and a bit

From typing "sweden nightlubs" into Google Images it looks the same as any nightclub from Ireland, UK, wherever.

Almost from the word go apologists for restrictions produced explanations of how Swedish culture and behaviour naturally equates to being in lockdown. I don't buy it.

In your opinion. Out of curiosity if you were in Micheal Martin`s or Stephen Donnelly`s position what would you have announced today?
