But why should she have to take all the precautions and you none?

Just because she happens to be vulnerable? Anyone could be or become vulnerable to the virus.

I have just come back from a holiday in Italy. When swimming I was surrounded by bronzed Italians who moved in the sun completely carefree. I, on the other hand, had to lather myself in factor 50 suncream as a PRECAUTION against sunburn and possible skin cancer. I did not expect the bronzed Italians to take precautions on my behalf.

Why do I put a helmet on when I'm out cycling?

Why don't all cars slow down to 5km/h around me instead?

    Selfish drivers.

It's mental. Some people literally want the world to hold their hand throughout life.

you say this but ...lo and behold our 5 stages of covid has no plan to move on into a brave new (hopefully old) world None. Our lowest stage still has social distancing and other stuff...There is no plan to move on.

There is no measure to say either.

    1. Our plan worked covid is a minor annoyance.
    2. Our plan was sh1t we might as well give up.

    Nothing.

If you go by history no rampant pandemic ever lasts. Seems an average of 2-3years and then life goes back to normal and has done everytime, life will find a way. The probability of this happening with Covid 19 is very high. We are nearly a year in since it started, the next year ( if no vaccine) should see changes.

Hmmm i wonder what all the misery merchants, lock us all up merchants, drama queens, the arrogant condescending posters will do when that happens? I’m sure they will be posting sh1te in the treehugger forums.

Neither sunburn nor driving is an airborne, highly contagious virus.

But of course you know that already.

And on that note, I'm out.

Were you at risk of getting sunburn or possible skin cancer from the Italians?

They'll be constantly online looking for the next possible outbreak of something to warn us about.

I'd say plenty regret missing the dinosaurs getting whacked.

No, from the sun, so I took precautions against the sun in the form of sunscreen. I did not expect the Italians to erect a giant sunscreen for my wellbeing.

Your question, however, is interesting. It exposes the fallacy behind the approach society has been driven to take against Covid. You are not at risk from other people, you are at risk from the virus. Therefore, you should protect yourself from the virus. The approach should always have been one of personal protection and not restricting other people.

But the sun isn't a sentient being, capable of understanding the danger it holds.
Therefore you obviously cannot expect the sun to minimise the risks it poses.

    People, on the other hand........

They should have a lockdown during the hours that the sun is at it's hottest.

The fact that you think this makes any sort of relevant point would suggest to me that your opinion on this matter is worthless. I’m glad you’ll never be in charge.

I’m not a selfish cnut, so I’m prepared to compromise my lifestyle so that EVERYONE can have as good a quality of life as possible while we get through this. That’s known as compassion.

I suppose you’ll come at me now with more nonsense about the economy, mental health, young people’s lives being destroyed (that’s me by way) etcetc. Spare us because you haven’t a clue like most people posting in this thread.

You are a sanctimonious one though

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Anything on your twisting of my words earlier?

You are quite clearly a being of such magnitude and intellectual prowess that I dare not raise my eyes to gaze upon you.

BTW I disagree about the bit in bold.

Imagine hiring a PR company and announcing a 5 stage plan with Dublin starting at level 2.5

    Farce once again

Just stuck on Newstalk again and Leo is on talking about the plan. Being announced now?

No Micheal? Or have they decided that people seem to think Leo is "better" at this stuff?

    But Leo is immeasurably better!

LOL - Leo in his plea to the people of Dublin saying "This is September - the month we usually show the rest of the country what we are made of"

He wouldn't know a football if it smacked him in the face - which it probably would

This is nonsense. You are consistently missing the point. Highly infectious virus' are not the same as sun burn. One can be spread from person to person unbeknownst to them.

Leos funny with his 4 "W"s

    Micheal Martin - Wanker
    Stephen Donnelly - Wanker
    Ronan Glynn - Wanker
Leo Varadkar - Loosing his teeth - Fast becoming a Wanker

    4 "W"s is right!!!

Would the creation of a vaccine not allow removal of all restrictions?

That’s fine but what about large community or social clubs? Many will simply disappear

As expected, an absolute disaster today. More mixed messaging and nothing of any substance. Complete lack of leadership.

They have lost even more people today.

Albert Reynolds had the right idea, a 1 page Man he said himself

All these levels and colours and numbers and distances is too much detail plus the constant uncertainty

Ends up with everything being ignored

I am not missing any point. If you don't want to catch the virus then protect yourself. Stop expecting me to protect you. This is the way the wind is finally starting to blow.
