Despite them getting rid of Duffy due to his ball playing ability Brighton look like are bluffing when playing out from the back, still don't have the players for that. Lallana getting a 3 year deal at Brighton gives hope to Jack Wilshire if he leaves West Ham.

A stick moving side to side would save more shots than Kepa.

    Some hit from James!

You don't want to make lazy criticisms of keepers when they've been on a bad run of form, and just automatically assume they're at fault, but unfortunately I think Kepa's after making a balls of that.

No balls making of Chelsea's second though.

That was a sitter for Dunk.

I just flicked on the game about 5 mins ago (good timing) and was surprised to see Kepa in goal.

How did Kepa go from being dropped 2 months ago, being on the bench up to a month ago for not performing well enough, to starting now despite no games in between? Where did he magic up that form from being on the bench and a 2 week pre-season?

Thiago Silva is going to have to find his peak self to sort out Chelsea's back 4 and hopefully for Lampard's sake the Senegalese goalie can hide a few more of their blatant defensive flaws but I feel some of these basic errors are coming from the training ground too.

i still dont get this signing for chelsea tbh, a 35yo who's played in the french league for the team dominating for the past 8 years, i think hes gonna have to be out of this world at getting the defence organised but i think he might struggle.

I think they didn't expect to get such a free run at Havertz and Werner so maybe spent more in attack than expected so after buying Chilwell and a goalie they maybe haven't much left to invest where they are weakest.

One thing I will say about the Brighton goal which I doubt Sky will point out is that Kante clearly ducks out of the way of that shot.

yeah maybe thats the case, i thought they had more in the tank for signings tbh. that game was fairly shocking tbh, its brighton so whether or not kante ducked out of the way doesnt matter imo, there was zero service for werner all game, the amount of times chelsea got to brightons 18 yard box and came all the way back to defence was terrible, seemed to lack midfield creativity with kante jorginho and rlc in there, dont think they need 2 defensive minded midfielders in there when you have kante who will do the job on his own. mount out wide seems to offer not much at all.

they let brighton play too much all game pretty much, and i thought they were pretty lucky to end up with the 3 points even though they scored 3, a pen, a shot that 99/100 times goes into row z and a deflected whatever that effort from zouma was. unfortunately can only see them improving alot from that performance and pulisic will give them a boost on the left when hes back in the team.

edit: maybe im being a bit harsh, but most of that game from chelsea's point of view felt like the simpsons example of football.

Very good interview with Roy Carroll here about his battle with depression and the problems that snowballs into. His language really struck me, especially the part when he said when he is asked about why he didn't speak about it while be was playing, and he says well why would he do that when was earning lots of money, who is going to listen to him or offer empathy when he is.

That attitude is hugely prevalent among football fans. You see it countless times on message boards, fans saying things like "Im sure the tens of thousands of pounds he earns every week will soften the blow" etc. We are in the age of social media when everything players do is under the microscope, where every little mistake is ridiculed not only by rival fans but by their own club fans, wishing death on players or issuing threats for making mistakes. The likes of Twitter is a megaphone for the moronic. Can you imagine making a mistake in your own job and having thousands of strangers messaging you saying they hope you die for it? For all the glory and adulation footballers can get some of the crap they have to contend with is disgusting.

The more I'm seen behind the scenes for a lot of players its a lonely life been a pro footballer. Money doesn't = happiness.

100%. Same for anyone in the public eye / rich and famous - Robin Williams, Keith Flint, Chris Cornell and many others, all hugely successful in their particular field but unable to escape themselves. Having loads of money or fame looks great for an outsider looking in but the reality can be very different and it certainly doesnt equate to contentment.

Of course money doesn't equal happiness. And obviously footballers are no more immune from depression or mental health issues than people in IT, binmen etc.

On the other hand, they don't have the stresses that many people face, wondering how to pay the mortgage or the kids college fees, stressed because the car needs a gearbox and they don't have the few hundred needed etc.

Ya true but I wouldn't like to live my life under a microscope. Social media is toxic, its easy to say ignore it but after the 1000th threat to you and your family because you lost a game it starts to wear thin.

I doubt it's that simple. It's also a way to interact with fans.

People should just not be arseholes

Jack Grealish signs a new contract at Villa.

This could end up being his 'Zaha contract'. Zaha signed his new contract a few years ago and effectively priced himself out of a bigger move due to it, along with very high wages. I doubt Villa fans are too fussed about that though, they'll be just happy to see him tied down for longer.

It is that simple, an 'official' presence could be maintained by somebody else, you'd never have to look at it.

The difference is Zaha had been looking for a move but still signed a new contract because £££
Grealish has not been intimating anything.

Unless there is a buy out clause Grealish just shot himself in the foot ,

Social Media is also another income stream and a very easy way to make money for them.

    There's no need.

It's just Liverpool fans trying to make themselves feel like they're top again
