imo a safe vaccine is years away. what do u think is the plan for things like concerts , festivals, sporting events? will government just override nyphet in a years time and say fuuck it were living with this lets go back to normal. like when will numbers ever be down low enough at this rate? the government badly need to stop ranting about numbers if they ever want this to go away. this time next year sept 13 2021, can we really see crowds back at GAA or concerts having happened?

Social distance so, stay few meters away. Nobody should be locked up in their house afraid of seeing anybody. What a horrible way to live with no end date in sight.
I don't disagree, I just think it makes sense to reduce risk as much as possible.

I have been up to see my folks twice since March, but they are under 70 just about and in good health.

it is crazy to think single or not single people wont be able to mingle when they are out socialisng. how do people meet and flirt in europe if they are sitted together at tapas tables drinking coffee? do europeans meet each other at college when parties hapeen like around 21-22 and thats it get married aged 25-26? i know in USA people usually meet their spouse around 20-23 and married the year or two after college, this new set up wont suit irish people at all. all the popular irish bars and clubs are full of people only thinking of settling down when they hit 30.
I would think a lot of people are increasingly meeting people online at this stage anyway?

Really hope we see crowds return by mid 2021

This numbers ****e is gone way way too far and is only scare mongering. How many years have we lived with something very close to this virus in the flu ?

The economic benefits of concerts/matches etc is massive and another year/year in a half of these been cancelled/postponed will be very damaging in that aspect. Not to mention mental health.

God knws what waffle will be in this 'living with covid levels 1-5'

Probably every 6 weeks I would say, they are pretty far away though in far end of northern Ireland and I am in Dublin. I am due to head up in a few weeks. I think as long as people use a bit of common sense.
    Whatsapp etc have been great.

I think its important you call to them, I hope covid isn't stopping you. Be sensible but I bet it means the world to them seeing you in these ****ty times.

Anyone that is not seeing relatives because of these rules is a fool, fair enough not having parties but if your afraid of having relatives over even a few then God help this ****en country.

I was referring to the guideline of no more than six in a house from max two households and the contrast between that and the pubs.

    Get a grip.;)

Apologies, I think we are both thinking on the same lines.

Love how people keep trying to push the eating out continental agenda. Never in a million years will that happen in Ireland.

We are certainly not a nation of foodies. The most popular food sold in a Chinese is chicken balls, chips, rice and curry sauce!

The time limit and early closing is such a load of balls. Went for dinner last night, pint before the dinner, pint with dinner and time for one more before being kicked out. Back to a pretty large house party then. Pointless.

Was everyone else at this house party wearing tinfoil hats or were you the only one? Way to go with flouting the health guidelines by the way.

    Classic!

We need the virus to stop spreading so we can lift restrictions and get back to normal.

Those who are so vocal about getting rid of restrictions are the ones who are doing dumb sh*t like gathering in their hundreds in town "protesting" and having large house parties. Spreading the virus further and necessitating restrictions that they will then complain about.

The people complaining that the publicans are being screwed are the very ones screwing the publicans and then they point the finger at the Government, 5G or Bill Gates.

It's like a bloody Monty Python sketch.

There's no normal on the roadmap, they probably should have put one in to keep people on-board, instead were getting 6/9mts of varying degrees of restrictions.

And then what? You can't guarantee a return to normal in 6 months so why would you include one?

You need to give people an incentive. Something to really push the boat out for. It could be a hard sell to the public.

What incentive? It's a respiratory disease with no current vaccine? What do you actually suggest telling people??

If you follow restrictions you will vanquish Bill Gates and his 5G mind control to hell.

That should get the crackpots on board.

Mod: Quit it with the ridiculous hyperbole. If you truly believe in your point of view or have an opinion on one side of the debate then you should be able to back it logically and factually.

Find a single post where I say I believe 5g has something to do with COVID-19.

Nah, I’m not buying it and I’m not putting my life on hold for 2/3 or 10 years. What’s the difference between going to a pub with mates and then going back with said mates to a house party. Does the virus know not to attack in a pub? Same difference house/pub. Get a grip. The constant crying and pointing “LOOK AT THIS GUY, GET HIM!” I suggest you start living your life now and not waiting on the government to give you that magic injection that may or may not be coming.

You’re the one constantly on here telling us about your creamy and delicious pints. You’re in the pub a couple of times a week. I am not. If you really really gave shít youd stay at home. But no, you’re all about the rules and then crying when someone else isn’t.

The incentive is hospitals not being jammed packed of Covid cases and most of us pottering away to an extent as best we can.

It's because of you and others like you that we are in this situation. We need these regulations in place to protect everyone else from people like you.

And while the rest of us are suffering, the ones putting the rest of us in danger and creating the need for these restrictions are the ones shouting that the restrictions need to be removed. Shouting about conspiracies when it's quite obvious that the real reason we can't get out of this mess is because there is a large chunk of "society" who only care about themselves.

100%, witch hunts are the order of the day it seems. I was out Saturday night, 2 separate pubs. Dinner in one, no food in the second. I asked the barman if I needed to and his answer was “if your hungry I’ll put something on for you, if not you needn’t bother, I don’t think the virus is any different tonight than it will be the night of the 21st.” Now some would be demanding his license and his head on a stick, but he was completely correct in what he said. People were socially distant for the most part and he had to close at 11:00/11:30 anyway.
