Lovely indeed :) 12 month restoration? It would be interesting to hear some history on the car and also details on the restoration.

I bought it from a well known renault guy in Kilkenny about 7-8 years ago.

    Has had two 'restorations'....
    I did a major mechanical in 2015 -->
    new water pump, belts
    reconditioned alternator
    reconditioned distributor
    new points, coil, leads etc
    new clutch

Last year, did the body restoration - mostly doors, jacking points, suspension, full paint and new interior !

Dublin car (north county) and mostly lived in Lusk and Clontarf....

Service stamps on the inside of the bonnet and Padre Pio sticker in back window.... so all bases covered :D

Excellent stuff, that Renault is just brilliant. Eric Leonard motors has only just closed down recently. The showroom is currently for sale.

My sister had the 5 gtl if I remember. Miser on fuel and lovely suspension over rough roads

Had a black Gordini 1.6 over the years. It had a renault 16 gearbox as the original was damaged. Lovely seats and nippy. Think it had a w\twin choke weber or solex. Cant remember

been waiting weeks to get a pic of all of them together . I had hoped to get my neighbours immaculate 1990 w124 estate into it too but I've not got round to it

So here is 2 pics featuring my "fleet"

The Merc is on Irish plates now - I did it slightly differently, I booked a VRT appointment and went and bought a car to bring along !:D

Well that's what I thought too and some will agree and some wont. Neither the Missus or myself could last more that two hours without a break whereas in either the 124 or 126 we can drive from Cherbourg to La Rochelle in one shot. Perhaps its an age thing! Mine was a 320 V6 and 32 mpg was regularly doable but we didn't fit in it I suppose.

A recent acquisition. Fairly solid overall but a bit neglected mechanically.

^ nice pair Isambard - enlighten me here a bit more.
They are both Mk4's, I'm guessing the '78 is a 2.0 Ghia, what's the spec on the other? Was the vinyl roof a higher trim level?

the 78 is a 2.3 Ghia V6 manual. The 79 is 1.6GL. It's not that easy to see what extra you get on a Ghia!

Wow, looks fantastic! Any more details?

Your dad was so keen on the MGB, you weren't. How did you manage to convince him to sell it? :)

    Beautiful car, well ware. We had a 90 back in 86 ( AGI 600 ) - is the GT a 5 cylinder 2.0 engine too ? What a sound!

As nice as the MGb was for nostalgia reasons, they are pretty awful to drive and you dont get much pleasure out of it. Plus the market went up on them and a profit was to be had so we felt the time was right. I think this Audi is more my style than his so I win this time around. :)

The Audi is a clean example but no show car. Originally a UK car that was brought over 4 years ago by a lovely gentleman who did a few bits to it to tidy it up. It has a decent history and drives well and was obviously looked after. And it has an all important NCT which can be rare enough got 80's cars. I'll upload more pics some other day.

Its only the 1.8 but goes pretty well even with that. I think it was the engine used in the Golf GTI from that era.

Before and after valet and buff up.
Mechanically sound at last and tested.

Next phase is to pretty it up and sort a few of the electric bits.

I was topping up the fluids on the classic and I decided to clean up the oil cap. It was really looking a bit sad. The girl needs a bit of body work tidying up so it has to start somewhere :pac:
