Shameless copy of the same thread in Motors forum .. and mods, apologies if there is one here already but I've never seen it. Anyway post pics of your classic here please!

I'll start, so I finally picked this up today, an '83 W123 280CE.

Keen eyed will see some trim missing in two places, it's in the boot along with a bag of new clips.

Also got the Mexican Hat alloys with it, but I like the look of the hubcaps so leaning to leaving them.

PS I have to thank hoodie6029 for igniting my interest in the W123, I was looking for a book for a gift and he recommended the W123 World by Mark Cosovich. The car included a signed copy. Thanks hoddie!

I bought it from a well known renault guy in Kilkenny about 7-8 years ago.

Has had two 'restorations'....
I did a major mechanical in 2015 -->
new water pump, belts
reconditioned alternator
reconditioned distributor
new points, coil, leads etc
new clutch

Last year, did the body restoration - mostly doors, jacking points, suspension, full paint and new interior !

Dublin car (north county) and mostly lived in Lusk and Clontarf....

Service stamps on the inside of the bonnet and Padre Pio sticker in back window.... so all bases covered

Had a black Gordini 1.6 over the years. It had a renault 16 gearbox as the original was damaged. Lovely seats and nippy. Think it had a w\twin choke weber or solex. Cant remember

Well that's what I thought too and some will agree and some wont. Neither the Missus or myself could last more that two hours without a break whereas in either the 124 or 126 we can drive from Cherbourg to La Rochelle in one shot. Perhaps its an age thing! Mine was a 320 V6 and 32 mpg was regularly doable but we didn't fit in it I suppose.

They are both Mk4's, I'm guessing the '78 is a 2.0 Ghia, what's the spec on the other? Was the vinyl roof a higher trim level?

the 78 is a 2.3 Ghia V6 manual. The 79 is 1.6GL. It's not that easy to see what extra you get on a Ghia!

As nice as the MGb was for nostalgia reasons, they are pretty awful to drive and you dont get much pleasure out of it. Plus the market went up on them and a profit was to be had so we felt the time was right. I think this Audi is more my style than his so I win this time around.

The Audi is a clean example but no show car. Originally a UK car that was brought over 4 years ago by a lovely gentleman who did a few bits to it to tidy it up. It has a decent history and drives well and was obviously looked after. And it has an all important NCT which can be rare enough got 80's cars. I'll upload more pics some other day.

Its only the 1.8 but goes pretty well even with that. I think it was the engine used in the Golf GTI from that era.

Mechanically sound at last and tested.

Next phase is to pretty it up and sort a few of the electric bits.
