I'm pretty sure postives v cases announced yesterday was 150 - 160 out. Not on my laptop at the moment so don't have the number to hand.

Someone else might remember what yesterday's discrepancy was

    Yesterday was 406 positive swabs (past 48hrs), 240 cases announced (48hr period 138 + 102).

Past 7 days (up to midnight last night):
    1047 Positive swabs - 970 new cases

    308 cases today - 181 in Dublin

that term WET has it's roots in prohibition and it relates to slang term for illegal distilleries. Sure it's used in the start of that Tom Hardy film, Lawless.

so by using it on our normal pubs, it's derogatory as far as I'm concerned!

Not sure your right there. I think it originated in England. It's featured in many english films. More popular in northern working class areas.

I'm not insulted at all by term.

It just explains what it is.

This is a pandemic not tourism Ireland. Thats the point your feelings don't come into it.

48 in hosptial including 6 in ICU as of this morning
Has any trend emerged re the punch this virus is packing on the individual level? There seem to be so many variables it is hard to see the pattern.

First ,it seems you have to adjust for increased testing ,then there is the time lag and then there is improved treatment . There must be others....

If ,as a member of a vulnerable group ,one catches the disease is it more or less as damaging as it ever was?

    Would you like to share?

Thankfully my days don't involve me spending too much time on the doom and gloom of covid.

Why would they lock Dublin down? Nobody is dying.

If anything they should be putting restrictions on the elderly, sad to say but the country must move forward. Another lockdown of Dublin would be horrendous for our already struggling economy.
If by elderly you mean those over 55.

A not insubstantial portion of the deaths are in that group.

Correct. We need to see todays positive swabs to see if the backlog is fully cleared. Any more than approx 150 swabs today and there is more to come.

Government caving into political pressure re pubs.

It's frustrating watching us slowly slipping back and sleepwalking into a bad position again. Because this is what is happening.

Sat number announced was 154, testing was 231
Sunday number was 138 no results for testing
Yesterday was 102 announced and testing was 406

308 makes the original outlier of 190 seem small.

    It's outlierier....

The backlog tends to catch up on a Thursday. The Thursday to Thursday comparison between swabs and cases is usually out by only a dozen or so.

This is nonsense. The pressure was there months ago, but they pushed it well out. They are seeing numbers rise, but they also see that the outbreaks are mire associated with private settings the public. There is no reason a pub can’t operate with the same rules as a restaurant.

A pub has to be the most anti social distancing policy you can have. Everything about it is the antisasyth of what health authorities have told us to do for the last six months. There is a reason they are still closed. They closed themselves down without even being asked. The policy now is obviously your on your own mate.

And yet six weeks after the numbers stated increasing, there are still only 6 people in icu. Unchanged. But but but the delay, but but but the age profile. Look at the age profile of who was admitted to icu in the initial wave, look at the time from symptoms to icu

Why wasn't there uproar about the churches being reopened?

Mostly older people in a poorly ventilated building, sitting in the one spot for an hour.

There's way more political pressure now to move quickly on pubs than there was a few months, even a few weeks ago. The talk of pubs has been constant in the Irish media for the last ten days.
