    "The next week is vital"

How many times do they think they can use that line?

I don't think that Gavin is correct. It says this on the dashboard:

"Data is provided to the HPSC by the HSE COVID-19 Daily lab tracker system. Based on data reported to HSE by 15:00 (Date_HPSC) but refers to data collected as of midnight the previous day."

Yeah hence why I said I'm sceptical unless the reporting has changed

    No, the public

High contact traced cases or community transmission?

It's clear at this stage that the labs can simply say "We've found 200 positives" The HSPC then need to work on those to see what's a new case and what is a repeat test. This process slows down or stops at the weekend and catches up on Tuesday.

I don't agree with it but it is a clear pattern and in no way a 'control' on the release of numbers

Agree, silly to complain about bad weather in this country. Loads of people still cycle to work and exercise outside in the winter or watch a game etc.

And loads of people work outside all day every day. Stepping into shelter only when it is really bad. Good wet gear and it is perfectly feasible. You have to pay a fair bit more for the better stuff but it lasts years and it opens up the world! I love being out in the rain when all cosy in my wet gear.

Abigail collins deals with cancer as part of public health. If one in 2 of us will be touched by cancer in a lifetime..shouldnt she be more worried about cancelations to procedures??. Instead of trying to get on tv.

Would the big uptake in cruising on the Shannon have brought an influx of visitors in to the town's along the river?
Probably, the cases are all in the Carrick On Shannon area, very busy with visitors all summer.

How will Santa be able to deliver the toys? If you're a covid positive house, will he leave the gifts outside?

Santa is magic so maybe he can use the magic to whizz the gifts down the chimney under the tree without entering the house. I think staying on the roof is adequate sd. Going to be a bugger with footprints though;)

was it that if it is below 5 cases on a county they don't give individual numbers. There are like 14 counties in these 29, so maybe a couple in each one of them?

Strangely, that only mentions one case in Leitrim today, so presumably the 11 would be added tomorrow?

Think they need to get this out more, it is an issue. An awful lot just dont wear them correctly.

There have been plenty on here rubbishing comments about masks being potentially a problem. I'm not saying they don't have their place, such as on public transport (though I remain cynical about them in supermarkets etc :) ) but the amount of people fidgeting with them, and anecdotally using the same one for many days now as laziness and lethargy kicks in, makes me wonder are they overall doing much.
For sure, they have replaced proper hand washing in loads of people - I don't doubt this for a moment, and have friends guilty of it. So regardless of the virtues of masks, their potential to stop people taking the precautions we all took back in March/April/May makes me wonder are they in some way causing as many non hand washing cases, as they are preventing coughing/sneezing cases.

    Awaits lots of criticism!

Trying to eliminate this virus is like trying to herd mice at a crossroads.............both ultimately futile.

People will not tolerate any restrictions at Christmas

Not sure about that. Plenty of people would welcome restrictions if it means they can avoid an office party/lunch or meeting some relatives.

That hospitalisation to case ratio must surely be very different now compared to a few months ago due to hugely increased testing?

That would make this extrapolation invalid?

I think that most people wear them as a necessary evil; the price that has to be paid for entry to shops and buses etc. Not because of any personal consideration of COVID risk. So there is not the personal incentive to do it right. I probably as guilty as anyone.....I have a bandana tied around my arm and put it on when I need to

I am impressed that the CMO is calling out the Minister.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2020/0907/1163759-covid-ireland-latest/

Asked about people being worried about a potential lockdown, particularly in Dublin, Dr Glynn said that the language of 'lockdown' is "really unhelpful".
