Hes a PHD in teaching, his background is nursing, i think that is the perfect blend to help educate the public.

If you dont watch his videos, how do you know what he says is uneducated or unreliable or not really that good ?

Why do you ignore the specific criticisms that have been made of him?

Is there anyone looking forward to Christmas this year?
    No parties.
    No pubs.
No browsing in the shops for presents.
No inviting Granny and Grandad to Christmas dinner.
No kids going to see Santa.
No carol-singing or collecting for charity.

(Maybe it mightn’t be too bs after all).

Wow it will be interesting to see how naysayers sugar coat that. Could be close to 300 tomorrow. Our weekly average will be dangerously massive, gas how they're making plans to open the pubs, another lockdown is more likely now at this stage
If it's 102 today and if it's 250 on Tuesday, then 7 day average on Tuesday will be 143.29 which would suggest we are seeing a somewhere in the range of 20-25% increase in cases this week. It wouldn't be anywhere lockdown territory but the trajectory heading into October is not promising with Schools and Colleges resuming. If ICU's start to increase and hospitalisations start to creak the health system again then re-opening the pubs isn't going to happen

Majority of states globally have confirmed at least 100 COVID deaths now, 1/4 of countries worldwide have confirmed at least 1000.

Almost 3/4 deaths worldwide are in just ten nations. Very uneven spread globally.

I reckon a lot of our spread started from people returning from Ski trips in Austria and Italy.

The Norwegians and Fins probably Ski at home in the main.

No, both Norway and Finland had cases originating from the Ischgl resort. Finland's second case was someone returning from there and then going about their business, as she was told Tirol isn't a high-risk area.

I'm probably in the minority here, but it sounds perfect tbh. Get the presents online as usual, already booked Santa experience for the little one, but no traipsing around houses Christmas Eve/Day/Stephens' Day, just let the family relax at home for a few days. Let my mam enjoy Christmas for the first time in a long time instead of her insisting ~15 people come over for a dinner which had her up at 6am to start cooking and cleaning. Can pop over to parents and the in-laws for a quick distanced visit and drink on the day, but get to hop into PJs at 2pm and cook dinner at home.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be grim for many, especially those who would usually travel. It'll also probably end many retailers, maybe even a couple of airlines.

Last seven days 921 cases from 69,705 tests carried out

Previous 7 days 807 cases from 57,678 tests

So 12,027 extra tests found 114 cases.

Given that they start testing with those most likely to have it and work out the way, it would be very concerning if a higher number of tests yielded a higher proportion of positives. It's not random sampling.

I heard Santa was sent on a course to deal with covid. So kids can visit Santa but probably with social distancing.

You're presuming next year won't be worse?

I assume that all people who have positive tests are retested to confirm that the initial result wasn’t a false positive. This is normal procedure for any diagnostic tests. Otherwise they would be treating screening tests as diagnostic tests and that would not be good practice.
It would be useful to know how many people were tested rather than the total number of tests.
They should also retest a proportion of negative results to ensure that they are not getting false negatives.

I’m hoping things will be more hopeful next year, but then we’ll have to deal with the fall out of the recession (which we are now officially in), so who knows!

I don't understand how they can come out with 29 cases in various counties. It makes very little sense.

Get outdoors is advice from ESRI guy! Only 80% who have any symptoms would call GP immediately .

Perhaps it's even simpler and it was just the few months of sunny weather though. :pac:

Hopefully the measures taken will affect viral load and continue to show in hospital/ICU admissions numbers.

maybe it's a health and safety matter with RTE cameramen that they can't press the zoom button for prolonged periods.

Get outdoors, yes because the Irish winter is fantastic for outdoors.

Would love to be outdoors even more, if they let people back into stadiums it'll be a start
