If they follow your suggestion some people wont bother with the masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing as they think " sure il be grand ". This will prolong the misery for everyone else.

I think that ship has sailed a long time ago. Government policy is to try and frighten population for two years to cover up poor test trace isolation policy by government.

Nope. I dont want one but its almost certain.

All experts admit that flu and covid season will overwhelm our hospitals.

The Irish winter is also perfect conditions for the virus. 4 degrees. Its why it spreads so fast in the meat plants.

It cant. Even the HSE admitted it.

The HSE is warning hospital services would not be able to cope if there is a second wave of Covid-19 during the winter flu season.

Yes but for the third time.

You claiming the rest of Europe could cope but Ireland is the only one that can't is a lie.

Yeah, would be an unholy mess. Can't imagine Donnelly exhorting us to stay home without a big fine in tow. You'd miss the daily nagging of Harris.

I was in a few shops today. Everyone wearing masks except for one shop where a family came in without any. Were told they wont be served and could buy masks on the spot. I'm not allowed to give details about them but il let you guess

This is simply not true. Not even a small bit true. Where to start?

Hungary just shut its borders. To everyone except returning citizens and residents.

There are local 'lockdown' measures in place in many parts of the UK such as Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Glasgow.

Spain is planning a 3 phase lockdown beginning the 18th of this month which will close 'non-essential businesses' and prohibit movement between regions.

France's PM Emmanuel Macron said he couldn't rule out another national lockdown (which was far, far more restrictive than our one btw).

I mean, just have a read on the internet. People in Ireland cannot go to the GAA and the pubs and you have people going on like we are living under a dictatorship. Get some perspective.
Once one country does it the rest will all follow. Inevitably.

If you told people last Feb the lockdown that were on the way you would have been called batsh1te crazy.

From what I can gather it seems to be the attitude of many in the country now. Same people more than likely clapping for health care workers few months back also.

Not very encouraging going into the Winter tbh.

This back log reporting needs to be explained by NPHET! It’s only happening on two days. A Saturday and a Tuesday.
I agree with the doctors calling for the numbers to be announced 1 a week!

I'd suggest with there usually being 2 days spread out with big backlogs that average figures twice weekly would be better. Would give a reasonably steady picture. Just once a week would feel like a long time to not know whats going on. Maybe a briefing on a Weds and a Saturday. Following cases at the moment feels like trying to get a weather forecast from someone having a manic depressive episode

Only if at-risk groups are exposed as they were in March. So-called experts guessing is not reality and meat plants are on cyclical testing from now on as are care homes. TBH this post seems to assume March knowledge and response. We've learnt a bit since then.

Late late show with cmo talking about covid and bereaved covid families. Light entertainment? Daily cases/deaths of covid reported . At least 100 years ago they kept this miserable news stories a secret to the general population. Media have a lot to answer for too. Why not have people in news I had covid and I was grand after a week. No balance at all, all cases schewed to the most severe and depressing stories dripping with negativity. I for one am sick of this focus.

They want ratings and to sell newspapers/subscriptions. Johnny being grand after a week is of no interest.

No harm to remember that because of social distancing, hand sanitizing and mask wearing this years flu virus spread is more than likely going to be a fraction of previous years.

That's one positive. Covid coming in march instead of November was also lucky. If you could call it that

That's doubtful with all the testing they are doing in them but only care homes would be locked down again. We know we can be selective now in how we manage it.

Not sure were you were living and why are cases rising for last two months then?

SD among growing amount of population is disappearing due to fatigue/boredom and testing tracing still hasn't tested anywhere near hses much talked of 100,000 per week back in March six months ago. Meanwhile we are drip fed this daily bad news stories of covid kills. Can people really listen to this daily for another 9 months?

Watching the news and I don’t understand the logic behind an empty Tallaght Stadium for the match
50 in a church allowed , public transport with masks allowed , weddings with 50 allowed but no spectators in a huge outdoor stadium .? Is there actually any logic to the rules anymore

    what do people want?
Go the US & Spain route open everything & let the virus spread & chance your luck that you will be ok?

Some of the attitudes to open the pubs & there cant be a lockdown seem strange considering the virus has not changed by all accounts & could overwhelm hospitals again. Economy gets destroyed anyway & many more people die.

I would think the US & Spain not be examples of what not to do

We have seen better treatments in the last few months reduce death rates stay with the social distance another 6-9 months & there will probably be a vaccine & a better understanding of the virus.

The plan was never to test 100,000 a week.

It was to have the capacity.

    Which we now do.

It's not inside the stadium that's the problem it's what happens before the game and getting into the stadium \ home from stadium.
A bigger risk again if you have away fans moving across the country.

NPHET wanted to include weddings in the restrictions but were overruled by Cabinet. On the other hand, people don't go to weddings every week as they do sports games.

Churches is usually the same congregation every week and people disperse quickly afterwards.

Plus this time the government might insist on nurses getting the flu vaccine.

Up to now most nurses didn't bother with the vaccine.
Just one third of hospital nurses have had the flu jab despite raffles and free coffee incentives

Looking at the situation in Spain gives an indication how the next month or so might go for us. Cases there started to rise in mid-July, about two weeks before ours did and only in the last few days are they seeing deaths go up; yesterday saw the most deaths since 8 May. Deaths will, unfortunately, increase shortly here too as more older and medically vulnerable people contract the virus.

The good news, however, is that while case numbers have not decoupled from deaths, the indications in places like Florida, California, Spain and France are that we're not going to see deaths follow cases up to the same extent. More positive asymptomatic cases, older people being careful, masks possibly reducing the viral load, dexamethasone, remdesivir, proning and oxygen treatment reducing the death rate in hospitals and better protocols in nursing homes should mean that the case numbers we're hearing about lately shouldn't translate to the deaths we saw in March and April.

They don't have to be the source of the infection.
It's whether they can be a source of community transmission.
And the unknown nature of the contacts re: community transmission semes to make it more of a concern than a larger number of cases in a cluster they can trace.
