    Everything will be closed.

If you honestly think we are going into lockdown you need to go see a doctor

    Everything will be closed.

Maybe but i won’t be locked down, i’ll be on the move. Either way a national “lockdown” won’t be happening.

Compared to Albania we might be OK.

But by all measures our healthcare is very poor.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.independent.ie/irish-news/health/waiting-lists-here-are-the-worst-in-all-of-europe-37855087.html

Ireland has the worst hospital waiting lists in Europe, according to a damning new index.

Overall, the healthcare system here ranks 22nd out of 35 countries.

Right so you made it up.

    Thanks for clarifying.

Tell it to the Minister for Health.

What is with the lockdown obsession in this country? Do people love it? Or maybe the misery of it? Constantly mentioned again and again.

By all accounts, every other country in Europe is making an effort to live with the virus.

We’re the only ones with pubs closed, talking of lockdowns and 9 month plans

Sadly Irish general public thinking is extremely unsophisticated and singularly focused. Also very easily panicked and frightened easily. Lockdown ticks all the boxes for the above. But unfortunately it has not worked and won’t work with an endemic respiratory virus that needs human hosts

Well it has to be said that there's a certain number of the population who'd love another lockdown as it means no work and the social payment. I've heard people say this.

Now my opinion is that I don't want a lockdown. However there's people out there who are inherently selfish and will do what they want. Ie, not washing their hands, not wearing masks, throwing parties, you know all the stuff that we are not supposed to do to try and limit this thing.

So you have to treat people like kids should we have an insane amount of daily cases (say we get 1000+ a day) so you'd have to have a lockdown. I know that's crazy to say.

Tell it to the Minister for Health.

You’ll find the government will have a hard time with people not complying staying locked in their houses.

Right so you made it up.

    Thanks for clarifying.

The death rate from respiratory diseases in Ireland is the second highest in Europe behind the UK, despite lower levels of air pollution.
We are rubbish at dealing with respiratory infections.

We haven't the hospital beds to cope.
With 2.3 beds per 1,000 of population, Ireland ranks just above Denmark, the UK and Sweden, but has barely one-third of the number of beds in Germany, the Health at a Glance report finds.

They will be the same fools cry about austerity in 2021.
Believing in the fairytale that austerity isnt needed. Unfortunately whoever you're borrowing from is unlikely to hand over money without conditions.

I tell ye this 9 month plan better be the miracle of the loaves and fishes at this rate, cases are going up simple as whether it is slow and steady makes no difference its going up and that is extremely bad news heading into the winter

This government cant be seen to do a Sweden.

Irish people are generally hysterical at the best of times. If the deaths start rising SF,PBP etc and the low paid marxist journalists will be hysterical.

Plus our health system is pretty poor by international standards.

    Another lockdown is certain.

They certainly can be seen to "do a Sweden" IF the Swedish strategy is seen to be more effective over the longer term.
Another lockdown may be unsustainable and irrecoverable from without transforming the basis on which the economy operates.

Once again thanks for clarifying that Ireland is the only country in Europe that couldn't cope with covid if there was no lockdown was a lie.

Late late show with cmo talking about covid and bereaved covid families. Light entertainment? Daily cases/deaths of covid reported . At least 100 years ago they kept this miserable news stories a secret to the general population. Media have a lot to answer for too. Why not have people in news I had covid and I was grand after a week. No balance at all, all cases schewed to the most severe and depressing stories dripping with negativity. I for one am sick of this focus.

Just aswell Nphet aren't running the country so. Easy to destroy the economy when you'll get paid no matter what.

They will open up travel to other countries when the airlines serving Ireland have sold off their planes.

If they follow your suggestion some people wont bother with the masks, hand sanitizing and social distancing as they think " sure il be grand ". This will prolong the misery for everyone else.

No surprise with case numbers tonight following the swabs

Why our are numbers so erratic ?

    It causes so much frustration

It cant. Even the HSE admitted it.

The HSE is warning hospital services would not be able to cope if there is a second wave of Covid-19 during the winter flu season.

I know, so much for transparency. Is there a way of finding out why this happens?

    On the backlog issue.

Is there any source of data which shows daily figures of new cases based on the date of the test (not the date of reporting)?

This would need constant updating of course, but each swab has the date it was taken recorded, so this information should be easily accessible.

You're really itching for one, aren't you? That's a maybe as he says if it is all possible to avoid it. Glynn said there won't be one this week. We can't afford it and we really won't respond to it as we did in March. At worst we might get regional restrictions. Donnelly claimed we are on the verge of a new one.

This is simply not true. Not even a small bit true. Where to start?

Hungary just shut its borders. To everyone except returning citizens and residents.

There are local 'lockdown' measures in place in many parts of the UK such as Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Glasgow.

Spain is planning a 3 phase lockdown beginning the 18th of this month which will close 'non-essential businesses' and prohibit movement between regions.

France's PM Emmanuel Macron said he couldn't rule out another national lockdown (which was far, far more restrictive than our one btw).

I mean, just have a read on the internet. People in Ireland cannot go to the GAA and the pubs and you have people going on like we are living under a dictatorship. Get some perspective.

After all this time it is ridiculous how ill informed some people are. Your comment is nonsense.
