It doesn’t matter if the numbers are from the weekend or not. Our case numbers per 100,000 people are ridiculous. We’re an absolute joke.

"While the number of cases today is the highest daily reported figure since May, the five day moving average remains relatively stable at 115 cases per day." - Dr Glynn

Not really up to speed on this, can someone explain why they add in weekend numbers sometimes? Why not release them at the weekend?
    Thanks

Truthfully our case numbers today are about 1/30th or 3% of what they were when things were bad. Maybe even less. Just say that - we have 2 or 3% today of what we had in April. Now. That's okay.

HPSC is weird in it's ways. I assume they've cut back staff on the weekends since the numbers reduced, because this used to never happen during the peak.

Still a week or more away from starting to see the effects the school return has on the figures.....

What on earth are you talking about? You’re suggesting we had over 6,000 cases per day in April.

Even still 112 to just throw in with no explanation, you can see on social media the absolute mess

No Deaths in 10 days is the important figure

Scotland have gone from a five day rolling average of 65.6 to 115 in the last five days

They opened schools two weeks before us, with reasonably similar guidelines and demographics and infection rate

Weren't they saying recently that a lot of the positives might be just historic fragments of the virus?

Either way, do case numbers really matter that much anymore, barring their impact on hospitals/deaths?
We seem to be moving to having loads of cases in people that perhaps aren't that serious?

I'm no conspiracy theorist like but you can see why people think they do it on purpose.
Like why of all days on Saturday and Sunday can the people at HPSC only input 40-50 cases? Do they not have shift workers? Or is some poor person on Monday inputting 200 cases. It makes zero sense.

I think Gruffalox is saying this was we would have had if we were testing as extensively then as now. Possibly extrapolating from numbers of deaths/ICU admissions back then.

Off today's topic but I see that Covid survivor Novak Djokovic won his first tournament back post Covid and won his first match in the US Open in straight sets.

Of course we did. We have recorded 28000 cases as of now. But between 2 and 5% have had Covid as researched. That is 100,000 to 250,000 people. Most we recorded in Aprilish was about 800 to 1000 cases. Do the sums. There are loads of cases missing. We could have had 10,000 cases on a day or so back then. It is very low now.
May not always be. But tis now.

I asked this last week and nobody answered. How can anyone say there haven't been any deaths for the past few days?

Somebody said here a few weeks ago about the late notifications of deaths and it's up to the family if they want the death announced.

So how do we know for sure when it's up to the families of the deceased?

    Of 53 cases yesterday:
    3 denotifications
    Clare +2
    Cork +1
    Dublin +28
    Kerry +1
    Laois +1
    Limerick +11
    Longford +4
    Meath +1
    Roscommon +1
    Tipperary +1
    Westmeath +1
    Wicklow -2

Anyone have any idea where the cases are coming from in limerick? Steady rise every day but no word why.

Any death that occurred in a healthcare setting is reported same day. Unless there's loads of people dying at home, then there's likely very little deaths.

Yep there were a couple of clusters in Tipp but not too close to the border. Limerick seems to be overtaking Tipp though anyway.

I've heard from a friend in Cahir who's a close contact of a possible case that some have been told they must pay €200 for private testing.

Not surprised by today’s figures, I know 3 families local who’s teenagers have come from holidays in Greece and now have Covid , two had no symptoms and continued with football training and working ,only got tested when a friend was confirmed positive. Most members of the households have gotten it.
So out of 3 teenagers who returned from Greece it has turned into a 3 separate clusters with some contacts still to be tested. Big numbers returning from Greece over the weekend.
