Here's a HIQA report that probably informed the decision. TBH there's not a lot of research according to them but what there is doesn't suggest a high risk scenario.

    https://www.hiqa.ie/reports-and-publications/health-technology-assessment/evidence-summary-spread-covid-19-children

It's a copy and paste of other reports, as is the "back to school" plan.

The only pertinent piece of information in that document is
The role that children play in
the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is unclear.

No one knows, for obvious reasons how this will react in an Irish School environment.

No one has even approached with a theory why biologically, children will not spread it to each other indoors.

Because Professor Nolan only had 5 friends in school is not science.

This is not a good chart. Spain is at same per capita rate as US.

It's a low base so looks terrible, will look into it more. Nearly half a million child cases in US now. Increasing everywhere.

I'm confused about buses. It's been ages since I was on a bus. I think city buses has windows that open but I'm not sure on coaches. I know some of them has those roof windows but do they all have those kind of windows?

my personal experience of coaches is they don't - like you mention only the roof windows.

Most of them have those little hammers to break the glass so you could always take things into your own hands if needs be. Can't be too careful.

The aircon on motor vehicles has a setting to pull in new air or recirculate. Has to work harder to heat or cool new air.

I passed by a school earlier and there was dozens of kids out beyond the gates, where the school ends. They were in the usual 4 and 5's all shoulder to shoulder looking at an I phone video, lying in the sun, heads on each others shoulders etc, honest to god, basically being teenagers.

As the lights turned green, the principal came out and seemed to be taking photos or something with this phone, they were all laughing anyway.

Point being, prove to me a child cannot get this in school? what they will do is contract and spread this outside the front gates or on lunch etc, ON school time, because they share a common link. This shyte of laying blame at the pupils home, is again a joke. It may indeed come from one home, but once it's in, it will spread and people will take it home FROM SCHOOL

The windows in the likes of Dublin Bus are tiny and only really allow for air circulation when it's cold outside due to the exchange but nobody wants them open in the winter. In the summer the air inside and outside are usually the same temp and you get no flow in at all so they're useless really.

    I haven't used a bus in 6 months. I don't think I ever will again. I've been cycling everywhere.

Dublin Bus in the winter = unbearably stuffy buses with passengers sniffing and coughing and angrily closing windows.

Are the bus companies doing anything about keeping windows open?

I developed such a fear of buses that the only time I had to travel a bit last week, I used the taxi. Poor taxi man and the window wide open and it lashing into the car because I couldn't work the buttons and just have it half open.

I've been using the Luas on and off. It's been grand - mostly 90% empty with the odd time all the seats being full. Everyone wearing masks. Every window open. It helps that there's a lot more doors than on a bus and air circulating at every stop. A bus could be ten minutes between stops in traffic.

A bus now. I'd be in two minds about a bus. That's where an electric bike might come into it's own.

By your description they were outside school and not in school - so even if they get Covid - they didn't get it in school

Who even cares where they got it. This whole situation has become a farce & a joke. It’ll be a mild illness to them like many others they could get, except this one comes with bucket loads of hysteria, civil rights under threat and an attempt to fuel even more anxiety & fear in the population just because they’re returning to school. Not to mention the amount of suicides I’ve heard of in the last 2 weeks, plus missed cancer diagnosis. But that doesn’t matter as long as we keep living a half life because of Covid...right?
Did I mention hospitals are very quiet with Covid related illnesses and no-one is dying recently, our death numbers were way inflated in the first place & our economy won’t survive the current restrictions?

 Well now there's no need for that. Buses are a petri dish of disgustingness at the best of times. A packed bus, in the winter, with the coughers and sneezers (even if they had masks on) would be enough to motivate even me onto a bike - and I am allergic to exercise.

Even if covid infections in the community were virtually nil, this whole pandemic has brought home to me that I probably could avoid feeling like **** for most of winter by avoiding packing myself onto public transport for two hours every day. I'm actually looking forward to not having a constant cold/cough.

Fully piss laden air, you can see the condonsation on the windows on the inside, Covid heaven. You can tell peasant spec vehicles by condensation on the glass.
