I got my modem last Wednesday and I am not getting over 500 on anything and its very unstable. I called about it on Friday and had an engineer out on Saturday and he couldnt fix it, he said something about the wrong boot file in the new modems and they would have to follow up with me. I still have not heard anything and to make matters worse they emailed my bill which was 129, 85 for the 1GB in advance and the remainder for my 500mb package used up until the new service. Needless to say I am not a very happy man!

Thankfully, I got through to cancel my 1 Gig order. I don't want to waste loads of time and having lots of headaches trying to get the new service up and running. I'd rather a good and stable 500mb than the 1gb with the drops and reboots.

I'll monitor to see if the service improves and/or reduces in price.

How long did it take to get that delivery message?

Will the 1GB upload be remaining at 50Mbps or do ye think there will be an upgrade of that to 100Mbps ?

This is what I see in the web interface all over the place, not 3 or 4 as I see in some posts online.

    524951.PNG

It's an Arris TG3492LG-VMIE, black in colour, Loaded config file: TG3492_cm_res009_v4-sip.bin

I also get random drops throughout the day, on lan and wired, not a reboot, just a drop for about 15-25 seconds, then all starts working again, very painful on zoom calls or playing games online.

I've since setup a monitor to see over all drops throughout the day here

Thanks i am going to setup a monitor also. Do you see the same issues in your network log on the router?

I was getting similar on my HUB 3 with all the dropouts I was getting. Only a modem replacement sorted it out.

Someone mentioned earlier about an issue with modem boot file - that would cause issues with provisioning.

I’m in work but getting emails to say my heating system has lost connectivity so seems the problem is persisting , managed to contact tech support via WhatsApp and they sent me a video on how to connect the modem ! Couldn’t spend all day chatting on WhatsApp either.. a rushed launch without testing their network and equipment by the looks of things

Funny enough, the logs don't show anything for the time's I've noticed the dropouts, but there still are entries

Event code 5 appears to be the following

Successful QAM/FEC lock on a channel advertised as active in the most recent primary channel MDD.

    Guys,

I’m trying to get into settings and I get the VIRGIN MEDIA HUB 2.0 screen as well.

When I go here: 192.168.0.1 it won’t accept my new password.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a new address I should be using instead to get into serttings?

Thats the correct address. The new router comes with a new password which is printed on the bottom of the router called settings password if that helps

Glad I read this no was going to upgrade this week but will wait now until my contract is up. Maybe they’ll have fixed it by then.

To be honest I do not think the monitor is going to be any good, mine is showing as constantly being up and available, but I have had 3 drops today already.

I am guessing it is a local side issue, with the router itself, not the service, the service appears to be good.

May be a bug in the firmware that causes is to choke as the wifi drops too but Lan stays working with no internet.

If the router rebooted it would take about 5 mins to get back online.
If the connection dropped it would take about 1-2 minutes of the cable modem to re-provision itself (usually), but these drops are only 20-30 seconds so it's looking like a congestion issue or something like that.

I have noticed though that the firewall can stop all internet if options are still enabled but greyed out when the firewall is off, so I may play about with this. Unchecking all options before disabling the firewall and see if it has the same effect or the drops stop.

Yeah i have noticed the monitor is at 100% up-time but i have had many drops this morning dropping off zoom calls and things not working.

I have been on whats app all morning with technical support they are investigating i will let you know what they think. I would imagine this is a router issue BUT when i got switched from 500mb to 1GB and was still using the old router the issues began. So i think it may be a settings issue on their end when they configured us to use 1GB.

Also i have mine in modem mode so no firewall or anything i have the Xiaomi AX3600 controlling everything and still getting the drops

Yes, they have stupidly named it "Virgin Media Hub 2.0", even though the last Hub was called "Virgin Media Hub 3" by everyone!!

Basically the confusion comes from the difference between Virgin Media in the UK versus Ireland.

In the UK, VM have had, Hub 1, Hub 2, Hub 3 and now Hub 4.

In Ireland, we never had Hub 1 or 2, as we were UPC back then. So the first Hub we got here was what they call Hub 3 in the UK, but they just seem to have called "Virgin Media Hub" here in Ireland and what they call the new Hub 4 in the UK, they seem to be calling the "Virgin Media Hub 2.0"

    VM UK - VM Ireland
    Hub 1 - Never Had
    Hub 2 - Never Had
Hub 3 - "Virgin Media Hub"
Hub 4 - "Virgin Media Hub 2.0" (New Arris DOCSIS 3.1 router).

The problem is, everyone here in Ireland tends to use the UK v3, v4 terminology.

So I turned off the firewall again, all options, this time, and all internet stops regardless of lan or wifi.... go figure! Something definitely not right with the router.

Thought I'd share my experience so far. Test's taken below were oneshots, I didn't repeat.

    Ground Floor Setup
    VM Hub in Modem Mode
Netgear Orbi Router connected by 3m CAT 6 Cable

    Speedtests (Speedtest.net on Router / Fast.com)
Speed Test Reported on Router 868Mbps /49Mbps
    Wifi Speeds to Samsung S20 Plus 627Mbps / 48Mbps
Wifi Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 520Mbps / 49Mbps
Wired Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 910Mbps/43Mbps

    First Floor Setup
Netgear Orbi Satellite (Dedicated Wifi Backhaul to Router)

    Speedtests (Fast.com)
    Wifi Speeds to Samsung S20 Plus 500Mbps / 48Mbps
Wifi Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 480Mbps / 49Mbps
Wired Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 570Mbps / 49Mbps

    Converted Attic Setup
Netgear Orbi Satelite (Hardwired Ethernet over Coax to Router)

    Speedtests (Fast.com)
    Wifi Speeds to Samsung S20 Plus 606Mbps / 49Mbps
Wifi Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 520Mbps / 49Mbps
Wired Speed to Laptop Macbook Pro 790Mbps / 49Mbps

    Installation
I carried out the installation myself and it took about an hour. It was a little frustrating as the new Hub and the TV360 box required several reboots to download and install numerous updates before they were working correctly. (The documentation suggests plugging in everything and walking away for 30 minutes for a cup of tea). I was impatient so tried before it was ready and it gave me issues like telling me the admin password was wrong or GUI would not load :D

I connected the new TV box to the same HDMI port as the old Horizon box. This resulted in my Smart TV rebooting repeatidly until I switched the box to another HDMI port (and reset the first)

I have had no reboots since and the connection has been stable (I run multiple Nest Cameras that alert me if there are any connectivity issue.

    Ordering Process
I was unable to reach Customer care having been on hold for 60 Minutes twice. (The call hung up from VM end)

I was able to confirm my order via Whatsapp with someone, receiving a response to my message after 25 minites.

    Other musings
Virgin Media need to reconsider the current 50Mbps upload speed. The download is nice but the enthusiasts that this is aimed at will not be happy. I already know it's not going to be sufficient for me medium/long term as I add more HD/4k Cameras and upload larger files to my cloud storage.

TV360 box is much improved and on par with whats offered by Sky. I haven't used Vodafone's TV so can't compare to that.

    Hi Logie and all,

Mind if lean on you for some support on a similar setup I have.

    3 story house.
    1Gb Virgin pipe.
    Orbi RBK853 AX6000 WiFi 6 System (1 router & 2 satelites.

    Macbook - Ethernet to VM router 940/55 via Speedtest.net 630/50 via Fast.com.

    Macbook / iPhone 11 - Wifi to VM router 676/50 via Speedtest.net 360/50 via Fast.com.

    Macbook / iPhone 11 - Wifi to Orbi - connected via Cat6 to VM router 205/49 via Speedtest.net 180/43 via Fast.com.

Q1. Why would Fast.com and Speedtest deliver different results, last time I looked pre 1Gb connection (500mb connection they showed the same speeds!)

Q2. Ihaven't set the VM router to modem mode yet, it's as it was upon installation. Could this be the reason the Orbi is delivering reduced speed?

1 GB is available in my area but I already have Vodafone FTTH.

Virgin works out cheaper but I had a terrible performance with them before.

Would it be worth switching ?

1gb pipe came last week, Orbi arrived yesterday. So no experience of the Orbi before! Was using an old Airport Express and Extreme setup which is still installed and faster than Orbi, everything is on newest firmware

I am half thinking about going for orbi. I have the deco m5 and the speeds are not great.
I have seen mixed reviews about the 853 on YT, so don't know what to make of it.
Did you get it on Amazon?
Quite expensive, hence me being a bit inquisitive and reluctant at the same time.
I had a very negative experience with the Asus AI Mesh, using the ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 and AX6100 (2 satellites)
I was getting a full 500mb to my phone anywhere in the house for the first hour, and then for whatever reason, it just bombed out and I couldn't get any more than 12 even beside the router. I did everything possible to try and get it working again, but no luck. Managed to offload thankfully.

If you are going to go for another mesh system, I'd recommend the EERO mesh WIFI system from Amazon. Super piece of kit and rock solid performance. Unbelievably easy to use. If you have a big house with thick walls, go for the EERO Pro kit but its a bit pricey.

Got it from Comms Express. Too early for me to give an opinion, other than the range appears to be good even through concrete block walls, but until I resolve the difference in speed, I will hold court.
I'm still trying to get my head around the difference in speeds over fast.com and speedtest.net!
