Because the extension only expires next week, so will be lifted then if the trend continues.

It was said on radio today that it would be monitored daily, do as to allow ease restrictions as soon as possible- but I'd say Donnelly doesn't do weekends

It would be surprising if they do reverse it before next Sunday.

its was specifically mentioned yesterday during the briefing, Glynn said that because most of cases came from a specific known source it wasn't the same as what kildare became.

Laois (Ballybrittas) and Offaly (Edenderry) had single localised clusters and were locked down - rules have been quietly changed. Kildare had 3 outbreak centres that could also have been controlled

Ours is clear too as long as you listen to the CMO & crew. The new government have not done well on communication. I agree on the mental side of things but it does look like Kildare will come out of it at the end of next week based on current numbers. That's 5 working days or 9 sleeps!

I don’t share your view of the CMO, but that’s fine diversity is good.

I really admire your optimistic outlook that’s actually refreshing- kudos

What's the average length of stay in hospital due to this? Surely has decreased recently?

Hospitalizations are building but no increase in ICU really. Maybe those hospitalised are testing positive in hospital?

    Why isn't anyone dying?
People are not dying yet because it is the younger age group being infected. But once it starts spreading into the community, especially now schools have returned, it will get into nursing homes again. Hospital admissions will rise, health care staff will become infected and off we go with the increase in deaths. Simple really. Whats not to understand?????

So if it's 850 deaths from covid (the excess mentioned earlier) out of 28k cases (Ireland's total), that means a 3% fatality rate here?

Or if we're saying we've actually underestimated cases and it's really a 0.6% fatality rate (I think that was the number given in thread), then 140k have actually been infected and we've only caught 28k.. meaning 112k were out wandering about unidentified?
So that's.. 1 in 35 people country have/have had it? Seem accurate?

Exactly. People can't have it both ways.

It is either deadly virus that hospitalised 15% of cases or there were way more cases than we thought and the hospitalisations were 10 times less at 1.5%

All the evidence is pointing to the latter.

Funnily enough I was saying the exact same thing since early March.

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=112820757&postcount=8871
So when you state 10% need ICU care we are talking about 10% of confirmed cases. If we only confirming 10% of actual infections then reality is only 1% of people will need intensive care. I was taking the infected figures and percentages from Italy as gospel until yesterday when it became apparent there was a hell of a lot more out there than reported cases...

Well below lockdown numbers now, Offaly had restrictions lifted while 14 day numbers were around 150. Why wait another week to give us 2 days back as a reward. It's Friday now and a weekend is just starting

He also said they were under control last week BUT THERE MIGHT BE A SUPERSPREADER. How do you lock down a county on a might?

Still it’s wine o,clock so bugger them

I guess it's safe to say there will be no possibility of any 12 Pubs Of Christmas sessions going this year.

Another way to look at it is, Leo got to be the good guy, from a PR perspective, as he was the one and is the face of financially saving the pubs...

Thus, from a Publican's perspective, making Martin, Scotch Egg and NPHET look like the bad guys...

Playing you all like a fiddle is Leo :D

And as we all know Gardai don't get involved in civil issues.

They've clearly been told they can't do what they wanted to

Thats the entire population becoming infected which is near impossible. And its not 1% death rate its not even close to that.

It is 0.65% globally, and around 1% in European countries due to elderly populations. So you are incorrect

Well we're not sure as it'll depend on how many people actually contracted it. Antibody studies here suggested the number of cases was actually far higher but because the criteria for testing was so stringent initially, we didn't catch a lot of them.

Is there a number I can call to alert the HSE to a person I know has flown into ireland from two different countries and did not quarantine. I know three individuals that they would have been in contact with.

Surely those contacts should be tested.
