Leo Varadkar is the deputy leader of the country, his part has a 40% representation at cabinet. Just because they've managed to dodge the microphones the past few weeks does not mean Fine Gael should not be held to account. They are very much part of this government as well, just as they were very much part of the golf function in Clifden.

I didn't vote for any party by the way in the election, and I'm only mentioning that in case someome tries to accuse me of allegiance to one of the others. I just hate this double standard.

I'm sorry but if you didn't bother voting in the election you can't really complain about the behaviour of these clowns. Use your vote.

The poster said they didn't vote any 'party' that's not the same as saying they didn't vote.

    And Jerry Cowley
From an article in the Irish Times:
While the community doctor [Cowley] thinks the majority of Irish people have been “wonderful” in how they have responded to the virus, he said there are always a few who don’t like to be told what to do “and can be aggressive if you do tell them”.

    Well now.

I find in history the people who won't sacrifice principle are normally the ones who get most people dead.

For me dead people are worse than dead principles.

    As Juno said

Ah, you lost your best principle, me boy, when you lost your arm; them's the only sort o' principles that's any good to a workin' man

I see Paudge Connolly's name on that snapshot of the guest list.

Mr Connolly was in Spain less than 2 weeks before attending the dinner... so he obviously decided not to self isolate for 14 days

The real absurdity is the fact that the meal was forbidden in the first place.

I would admire any of the 80 who would say "Yes, I went because it's not such a big deal."

Wonder has Noel Rock made any comment about Station House 81? He was prolific with his outrage on Twitter about Berlin.

Only thing on his Twitter about it. Dunno about any interviews or public comment on it though. https://twitter.com/NoelRock/status/1296542069352275969

Any good politician will know to join in, when they weren't the ones who screwed up.

He seems reserved, maybe his outrage level is dictated by the participants.

WHO suggesting this will be over in 2 years.
    Is that realistic

As long as rich countries don't restrict third world countries from being vaccinated then yes it is entirely realistic

By taking this attitude, we’re sacrificing principle - what’s right and wrong, for our own self interest. That’s the sort of thing that regularly gets lambasted on here.

What he did was either a sackable offence or it wasn’t. How good a job he’s doing or whether it’s cutting off our nose is really beside the point.

He genuinely can’t be fired by Leo or MM though. It’s not up to anyone here, it would have to be the EU. It’s not just that they’re not sacking him because of his position (though I do think Brexit would make that choice incredibly difficult if was up to the Taoiseach or Tanaiste here), it’s that nobody here can fire him. He would have to resign. And can anyone actually see him being willing to do that?

Less for those countries who can roll out a vaccine first maybe?
    A year maybe?

Well I don't know about the developing world but would certainly seem hard to see this going on another two years in the west with a vaccine on the cards

There's a decent chance that vaccination might do that in the 2 years. Or if not, then everyone's already been infected by then.

3rd world countries need to be vaccinated? Really?

The people at risk are generally not found in 3rd world countries.

So those from developing countries are more immune than developed countries?

Not a hope everybody is infected in just two years.
