I withdraw all the praise I heaped on Sean O'Rourke on his retirement if he refuses to respond to his successor's invitation to explain himself.
I'm sure he will be very disappointed when he hears that

Can you explain why we have almost no deaths or ICU admissions, how exactly is this second wave going to manifest itself?

I'm saying with only 1% infected we haven't had a first wave..

Ah Tickers, if only you were correct, I wish you were. This virus has far from taken out the susceptible, it took out what it could reach. There’s thousands more it can and will take out if we don’t keep our guard up. We don’t have community immunity either. You might be right this time next year but the cost of that in terms of lives and illness will be an exponential of what we’ve seen thus far. Meanwhile, tired as we are of restrictions and social distancing we must stay the course. Don’t let these gob****e politicians lack of discipline derail us, or we’re no better than them. anyways back on topic......

But nobody is getting sick or dying, the majority if people have been exposed, the country has been open for weeks so accounting for the lag by you theory we should see sick people in hospital by now?

Kids have been off school for months, wrestling on the green, no social distancing or face masks. 3 months ago when everyone was out for their 5km walk with no masks, where are all these sick people when the virus should have been spreading 3 months ago?

That just suggests that the virus isn't that bad. You said it yourself, less than 1%.

No 1% have been exposed going by government Data...that's 99 out of 100 of us left to get it. We haven't even started.

If this was the Irish soccer team we'd be looking for the manger to go. Martin couldn't manage a donkey derby by the looks of it, utter shambles of a government, should do the decent thing and resign.

    No we wouldnt.

If Shane Long and few went left the hotel to go to a party in contravention of C19 guidelines- you would expect Stephen Kenny to resign. Right.

You clearly have your own axe to grind.

How do you work out that the majority of people in this country have been exposed? Oh, and if you could answer the last question I asked you too, that'd be great.

I haven't seen that Government data and it doesn't make sense to me. How can only 1% of the population be exposed when the virus has been in circulation since last year. People have been in work, schools, syatcation, pubs, restaurants.

The reality is that people are not dying from this virus, it's that simple.

You would swear we are living in Paris in the 1790's the way some of the keyboard proletariat are carrying on. The reign of Terror at least had vindication amongst its' hysteria.

They will be looking to ban golf next.

I can't help feeling the commies are secretly having a laugh at this.

A golf dinner in Galway is hardly going to be the epicentre for Irish Covid meltdown. I hope the lamb racks were worth the bother.

Can you imagine the table banter,

" Dara, enjoy that Beaujolais cause the next one your having will be from the backbenches " ....que furious table tapping and out loud laughter.

Hold on. Michael Martin is not a baby sitter.

If a few gob****es want to head off to a hotel in Galway for some shindig there is not a lot he can do if he is unaware of it.

He is not baby sitter- he can only react after the fact.

He is however the leader of the country, and he presided over a car crash presser that lead to more questions than answers. He was asked to clarify aspects of the new rules and waffled pure bolllocks.

In a time when things need to be black and white he is talking grey.

It was hardly a secret golf society outing so everyone in the Dail would have known about it. I can’t imagine the party leaders not knowing.

This is the truth of it. The country has been open since late June and despite this, AND no masks, we didn't see a surge in hospitalisations or deaths.

Even now, we're seeing increases because of known incidents like the meat plants.

This disease simply isn't as virulent as was thought in March, and that's OK. At the time the information we had was limited and we made the only decisions we could. However, we've completely failed to keep pace with the updated information and actual known outcome of cases in the country.

Protect the known vulnerable demographic, ensure the necessary hospital beds are available, but beyond that - all these other restrictions should be removed immediately until such time as there is an actual justification for them.

Sorry Hotblack, whatever about the Clifden 81's breach of regs, it was your decision to bring your 85 year old MIL to a hotel.

    that's a bit harsh.

We brought our 90 year old MIL to a hotel (in Offaly:eek:), but first enquired about how they were implementing the Covid restrictions. Everything was perfect, down to one way systems in the corridors, our meals were served in the humungous dining room, where sittings and number of tables ensured safety. They even used separate socialising rooms for different family groups.

We considered Skype, with her at home on her own celebrating her 90th, and all of us in the Hotel, but the broadband was crap.

Personal abuse, isn't this against the charter ?
So you can't have a reasonable debate, so instead resort to name calling.
Perhaps you should go back to Joe ?

To the best of my knowledge, the use of accurate descriptive adjectives is still permitted here. And to my certain knowledge "Joe's" programme ended at 15.00.

Not sure if you are on a wind up , but here goes. I think alot of the restrictions are bs but I follow as close as I can because that is what is expected of me. Now my problem is a bunch of the people involved in imposing restrictions on my life and that of my family and friends feel the same restrictions are not applicable to them. They found out today they were wrong, so f**k them.

We just about stopped it because of the restrictions earlier this year. Should be obvious like

It's tempting but the "winter" argument doesn't stack up because we should be using the summer months to build up more herd immunity if and a very unlikely if there is a so called second wave but it is hard to see how a second wave could present itself because, as I keep saying, nobody is getting sick and nobody is dying.

Fair point. No matter how diligent and well trained the staff a hotel environment is always going to be a risky place regarding virus spread. Even I wouldn't take the lift in a hotel, and I'm a bit of a covid sceptic.

Like many outrage-worthy things, its the principle.

The day after new restrictions were brought in on gatherings, ministers and senators in the government went to a golfing committee anniversary dinner with 80 people in attendance! The arrogance is astounding

You must be being deliberately obtuse if you can't see how this is justified

What wild sweeping claims are you referring to? It's a statement of fact that almost nobody is getting sick or dying from this virus.

I’m well aware. Had the Green Party ran a decent candidate in CSS he would be on €350 a week now.
