I'm a bit confused. So only gatherings of 15 outdoor but 15 vs 15 GAA players plus subs and coaches is okay? Those this mean 50 people can still gather indoors for a mass, wedding, and restaurant? It's not very clear or making sense?

So limit people socialising in homes/gardens and at sporting events and instead allow them to socialise in a pub. I dunno, seems outdoors in Ireland covid is more infections than the rest of the world.
Pubs as they are regulated are a much more controlled environment. It's the limiting of contacts they want, currently at six for cases I believe.

How can schools still reopen if the young are getting it and spreading with no symptoms?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,129 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

It all had a bad effect on my mother.

I did what I could with walks and drives but no grandchildren in the house and no visits to or from her sisters. And no Mass.

Is it is starting all over again now?

If people follow the rules, the factories get checks and there's no outbreaks from schools going back then it might be okay. Though it's slim to none all this happening

I’d say all the government advisors are getting ripped a new one, that was a shambles

If you're not angry yet, get angry.

Russia has the vaccine, and instead of playing hide and seek with restrictions and ruining prople's lives, we should be lining up to get it and end this quarantine nightmare.

Only public anger will force them to act.

I would take it soon to stop this.

The government message is too unclear to be sustainable.

Zero covid policy is clear. We get th numbers down. We quarantine people coming in. We revert to normality except people for the most part stay in Ireland until a vaccine. You could sell that to people. Not this mishmash of contradictions. Its not policy but a knee jerk reaction to increases.

The wedding thing is most likely on account of the notice required and they can't just cancel every wedding from a press conference. MM did say mention that notice.

If I'm out for a walk with the dog and see a football match in the local park can I stand there and watch or will I be asked to keep walking? And who will police that?

What is important is what makes logical sense. And stopping outdoor sports events from having a tiny number of spectators in a safe environment makes absolutely no sense. Especially in the light of 50 allowed to attend indoor weddings. You only need 5 people for a wedding

How many weddings are you likely to attend this year? How many sporting fixtures? I'll bet the latter if much larger than the former.

People have not been distancing at sports events. I've seen it myself. Given that this is a relatively inconsequential decision, it was bound to happen. All the nice things will be sacrificed if it means the schools can open.

While the restrictions may seem contradictory, the restrictions are not meant to be compared to one another. The goal is to reduce the overall number of gatherings taking place. A €9 meal doesn't make you immune to covid but having that restriction in place reduces the overall number of gatherings taking place in the country.

I think this nuance has been completely lost in the messaging tbf.

Am I right in reading that pubs trading with food have been extended to half 11?
Maybe our pleas have been heard

Yeah but they shut everything down then and this is not March. Martin did say they were trying to get a balance with this announcement and penalising hotels,/pubs was not part of the plan.

Walk by the match with your eyes closed I presume.

High in Tipp and Limerick, are cities out for lockdown like Dublin and Limerick?

We need control and a clear message about travel, testing at airports, borders and ports etc.,

Travel isn’t a problem but anyway best have someone to blame them bloody foreigners.

Mm clearly said they didn't take the NEPHET advice for weddings.. Dr Rónan clearly stated after it that they said 6 indoors.. No unity there between them. Totally over ruled.

6 months imprisonment would be too good for you.

I heard there was a party at a house near the university in Limerick and many people there got infected.

This is a problem with attitude and it's one of the reasons why this has happened. If there is no one to police it or no punishment people won't follow the simple instructions. You move on yourself is the answer.

That's what has led us to this point.

Leo has already leaked it to the media that there were "differences" between himself and MM at the cabinet meeting today. Handily enough he's neglected to mention what those differences were.

"The most skilful, the most devious, and the most cunning of them all." springs to mind.
