Good luck to the government keeping people on side if they take away sport from people for no good reason

    Farcical from them and NPHET

If this is true then...well I actually don't know what to say or where to start...this will be the most ridiculous move in this whole sorry saga.

I find this very frustrating. I don't think they're being sensible at all, if you take away all activities from people you won't get compliance. They should be doing whatever they can to encourage outdoor, relatively safe activities as that will reduce the amount of indoor activities people do. Instead they're being idealistic and assuming people will just sit at home not socialising. That won't happen, they need to encourage safe alternatives where possible.

Clearly the notion of evidence based approach has been thrown right out the window.

Majority of cases coming from clusters of tightly packed food processing factory workers many of whom live in cramped accommodation outside of work. Makes lots of sense to ban the handful of supporters at sports matches in parts of the country that are effectively covid free.

They are going to start losing people if they carry on with this ****e.

There was a decent crowd allowed in for the world snooker final in Sheffield the last day and that was indoors.

Different jurisdiction granted but hard to make head or tail of the decision making process at the moment.

Absolutely baffling. The decision making process is all over the place.

If they had anything to back up clusters being found at sporting events with 200 people outdoors then fair enough but the 200 includes players, media etc so there's only 50 odd fans in at matches be it GAA or league of Ireland, so it just doesn't make sense.

The government are going to lose a lot of people - nobody will comply with that sort of decision.

OK, then I'm not sure where the original figures came from :D

I'm only getting somewhere between 150 and 200 positive swabs between 16th & 17th. 15,900 tests done with a positive rate between 0.9% and 1.3%

Which would leave us with a shortfall of 30-80.

I'm expecting numbers in and around 50 new cases again today.

If not, then I give up.

    Yup

This new advice should be ignored if they are stupid enough to try to go with it

Only recommendations by NPHET so government will overrule surely? There hasn’t been a massive amount of cases from outdoor sports.

So parents of an u12 camogie match can't watch their kids playing but they can go into a pub and drink with more adults?...WTF?....Please say it's only a rumour.

"okay lads, we've had pretty widespread outbreaks in food processing plants, direct provision centres and factories... What can we do to stem theses?"

    .......

"What about restricting the number of people attending GAA matches?"

    ......

    "Perfect"

1 in three people who are sick test negative with PCR test.
That's pretty shocking and leads to lots of spreading I guess.
Not sure on differences between tests in different countries.

This government doesn't go against NPHET to date

There's no way people will comply with that. I won't be complying with it, not a chance.

Baffling decision if its been taken.

Glynn said only 2 weeks ago they had no concern about outdoor sporting events and that the 200 at a match wasn't an issue as it was low risk

That is part of a pilot project by the UK government to trial limited public gatherings at sporting and other events. In fact there were limited numbers of fans allowed into the Crucible on the first day of the World Championship at the end of July but that policy was halted after there was a spike in new cases and was only reintroduced at the weekend.

According to a source, it is understood that 22 workers at a meat-packing facility in Kildare, who all share a two-bedroom house in nearby Sallins, caught the virus while attending an under-12s camogie game in the town

It's a dangerous route they're taking, if true.

They'd want to be bloody hell sure that case numbers go down if they start taking away life enjoyments again.

If they don't, a later lockdown will have noses turned up at it. Do it right or risk a mess altogether down the line.

Good twitter account to follow too - https://twitter.com/Coronavirusgoo1

Nice having some good news peppered amongst the doomy news feed.

    This is exactly it.

My business is way down, can't go to gigs/music festivals, sport's only just coming back (and on a knife edge) and this on top of the obvious fear of the safety of my parents.

I look for the good news wherever I can find it!

and ? Its an indoor event and high risk. We've a handful of fans at large outdoor stadiums which is very low risk.

Whats wrong with 50 fans at a match in a stadium that can hold thousands

They're blaming the factories on an U12 camogie match? Is this a joke?

so no spectators at sport events outside where transmission is low.

But meat plants stay open even after an outbreak.

    Makes no sense
