is this campaign over now ?

September I think, they generally will continue to call until interview results are out and new panel formed from new competition.

Does anyone know how long the clearance process generally takes?

Clearance usually takes a few days, up to a week on average.

Just got called for interview today. Have it next Thursday. Can anyone give some tips who recently did the interview online. What sort of questions were asked?
What is a pass for the interview? Had given up on getting called and was in the middle of prepping for stage 1 of the 2020 campaign. Have only done 1 online interview before and it was a disaster. I'm 11 years working in retail management and really want to get this.

That's great news! Can't give much guidance on the online part but write out each competency using the STAR method, make sure to have 3 solid examples for each competency as they push for more info if they feel you haven't answered adequately.

Have answers ready for the usual questions too, like describe a time you dealt with a difficult customer/ colleague. How would you deal with one of your direct reports underperforming etc.

    Best of luck with it!

Firstly it's great you got called at last mate and congrats - Get the competency framework out - and a a copy of your original application form. It's a competency interview so they will specifically go by that - have two examples for each competency - be ready for some challenging questions like how you would handle workplace conflict. With your long-standing management experience you are definitely a good candidate - don't be afraid to say exactly that too. Best of luck!

EDIT: Competency framework in PDF format if you didn't already have it here:

    Well done, great news.

I did an interview a couple of weeks ago - three people on the panel, 1 observer and two people who do the questions - they split the competencies between them.

As the original application was submitted in January 2019, they'll probably ask you about your career since then, a bit of an update.

They then go through each of the competencies and ask for examples and as others have said try use the STAR method - they want to know the situation you were in, what you did and the result of your action. They want to hear 'I' a lot.

Have 1-2 examples for each competency, if they ask for more it means you're not illustrating your point well enough for them.

Each section is timed so don't waffle, get to the point ASAP. When time runs out they move on.

They may ask you at the end about what you bring to the public service and why you're a good fit for it.

Each competency is scored out of 50, 20 is a pass. It lasts for about 40 mins.

    Hope that helps a little...

When you log into puplic jobs it’ll be there under ‘my applications’

Ah brill. Thanks everyone for advice. Fingers crossed I get it. Just finished my level 8 this summer at 35 so don't want to waste an opportunity like this. Plus if I spend one year in Aldi I may have a nervous breakdown😄

Can someone tell me did we fill up application form with details of the competencies. I see my application form on public jobs but it's only basic details like my education and work history.

No. At the interview, they will have your application form in front of them and they will ask you to illustrate say your people management skills/competency by drawing on an example from your work history.

Write out the five competencies and have a list of bullet points under each outlining the example (s) you might use.

They can also ask additional and related questions, I got a question about did I ever have to give a colleague bad news (work related) - how did I do it etc.

    The interview is tough enough.

Cheers for that. Just getting stuck into it. Going be a bit of a slog next few days but hopefully it's worth. Just one final question if someone can answer it. If successful at interview and get placed on the panel. How long does that last since this campaign is wrapping up in a few weeks!

It seems to be a lottery, I passed interview 2.5 weeks ago and heard nothing. People have been left waiting months or even years judging by comments on various threads.

I assume even though this panel is formally closing in September, if you're on a panel you have a chance of a placement until the first batch of people pass the interview on the 2020 panel, although I could be wrong.

For my interview this week says there is 3 on the interview board but they list 4 names. Anyone have Pat Macken or Mary Kennedy interviewing ye. Bricking it here and can't seem to concentrate and only have couple more days. I doing everything but sitting down and concentrating on this interview😟. Wonder do many fail the interview?

The fourth person is an observer, they will welcome you and take notes, the others will ask the questions - if there's three interviewers it just means they'll split the competencies three ways, no need to worry. I found my interviewers friendly and courteous, they want you to do well.

Interviews can be nerve racking, just try to write down the competency headings and a few examples under each from your work/education life.

Is my score in interview added to my result I've got so far with the numerical, verbal and e-tray or is it just all based on the interview now.

You're given a score for the interview - 5 categories marked out of 50.

I don't think it's added to your other scores but your OOM may alter, for example if you're currently 5 on the OOM and some one near that OOM does much better on the interview than you then your OOM may disimprove but the opposite is also the case too!

They'll tell you your OOM with the interview results.

No, not really, as long as you can give them examples to illustrate the competencies, you can get through.

Anyone on the Irish language EO panel??

How do you get onto this panel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭LifesgoodwithLG

Morning everyone, Would really appreciate your help, I am on the Self Assessment test on the PAS website. http://www.quickstart360.co.uk/runtesteo.aspx, unfortunately there is no option to 'Review Test' so that I can check my answers.

I have 13 years Management Experience and am scoring in the Lower Band of the test. Does anyone know where I can see the correct answers to see where I am going wrong.

I have received email regarding Dublin 2018 panel yet the EO 2019 panel appears to be disbanded??

Wel that makes little to no sense. EO 2019 only going since end of Jan 2019.

So PAS says EO Dublin 2018 has been extended til November. Will this panel also be extended? Not that it even went its full course anyway

Oh, let’s hope! Such a waste. Stage 2 done since March last year. Was hoping there was a chance to get called for interview this autumn when all those retirements are supposed to happen.... The 2020 comp kind of put a stop to that. Just doesn’t make any sense to have a new competition now when people with pretty good OOM from the 2019 competition is still waiting to get placed or called for interview...
