so have people stopped dying from it or what ?

Nope there is a lag between cases and deaths. The second wave will be a lot more severe than the first.

Looking at todays report on gov Monday 3 the 1 hospitalised case was someone between the ages of 0-4. Hopefully it becomes a -1 tomorrow

I can't let that go. You have zero basis for this. All evidence points to the contrary in fact.

I would have said no chance a short few weeks back but looking inevitable now as we move into the winter.

Our economy is collapsing either way at this stage.

If that happens we are truly fu*ked. There is a chance of pulling it back now but time is running out. They should have kept it at flattening the curve, this is getting dangerously ridiculous.

The worrying thing from today’s numbers is how spread out the new cases are a lot more counties involved.

The only way forward is a NZ style border closure.

Otherwise we will be in and out of lockdown till a vaccine comes along.

I can see it eventually happening in Nov when it should happen now.

And just how would you do that?
Thousands of people in border counties cross into NI every day for work, shopping and leisure.
Same for residents of NI, many thousands of them work here every day. You can't legally stop them going to their place of work.
We can't force another country to close parts of its border to its own citizens.
UK residents can travel to NI at any time and there is no way that will be stopped.

you don't die for a month or more after you get it.
Yeah and it can be longer but hopefully we won't see many more. Low numbers in hospital and ICU suggest it will continue the current pattern.

As weird and all as Gerry Killeen is at times - and he does come across as being a bit "off" - I do wonder sometimes will we be looking back in January or February and wondering why we didn't take the zero Covid approach when there was a chance to do it.

Obviously it's impractical and it's hard and there's absolutely zero political will to do it, but I do wonder if, in the long run, it's actually a more sustainable approach. This method of half living and half dying by a thousand cuts could eventually fray everyone's sanity.

Except Bergamo showed 50% of people had it.
Obviously if 95% of us didn’t have it then we are still susceptible to outbreaks as we don’t have herd immunity. (Not even this season)

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/coronavirus-ireland-has-no-significant-herd-immunity-study-shows-1.4308216

It would be interesting to test the residents of Bergamo again to see if the number has gone down. I think it depends how long after infection you test for them.
We were probably too late in testing for antibodies as most people who had it would have recovered 3+ months before they had their blood tested for Antibodies.

A lot more research and studies are needed in this area over time.

Has any country stabilized after getting 50 cases or so? I dont think so and its magnified given our population

    31 are men / 19 are women

    81% are under 45

42 associated with outbreaks or close contacts.

4 cases have been identified as community transmission

11 cases in Wexford, 10 in Kildare, 6 in Dublin, 5 in Donegal, and 18 are spread across 9 counties.

The nine counties which make up the 18 remaining cases are: Carlow, Cork, Limerick, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary and Wicklow

    What does community transmitting mean?

This is based on what evidence exactly?

Randomly spreading around and it can't be linked to a known cluster.

The amount of racist chat going on in public is concerning due to these clusters.

Means they don't know where it came from.

At peak it’s likely we had of that order. We know it’s likely we have had 250k cases since march, so averaging about 1.5k cases per day since march

where are you getting that from? or did you just make it up?

You can allow travel only within the island of Ireland

250K is about 5% of the population, which is the level they've found in antibody testing.

The UK will close it borders as well by Nov.

Covid 19 wave during Nov,Dec,Jan,Feb just can't be allowed to happen in either jurisdiction.

Just thinking out loud....These clusters started with one person (in each venue, though I know the DP centre and Naas factory are linked). any thoughts as to where those people got it? Are these the unknown community transmissions or are they travel related?

We never went to zero cases

So no deaths is good which is nearly a week without new deaths which is obviously good. So the last four or five days it's 53,46,45,50 so I suppose given we had 89 nearly a week ago and the numbers have dropped again(albeit at a higher number) and are staying more or less on the mid forty to fifty range is good. It's not growing at and raising as of now.

these clusters must be running out their course
They track them until there hasn't been a case linked to a cluster for 28 days before they close them.
