    This is how business works...

Would you go to Penney's and expect them to stop selling you clothes because you are buying too many?

Pubs sell drink. They'll serve you as long as you are well behaved and not in a state. (which is probably 99% of customers)

I don't understand how people can have such a hatred for pubs. If YOU don't like them, just don't f*cking go!

But sadly pubs don't stop serving you when you are drunk, if anything they over charge you and give you the incorrect change.

It's a social problem and I believe it needs changing.

You cant exactly compare pubs to Hitler and the Nazis now can you?

Bit of a strange comment to make.

Irish people really need other hobbies besides the 'pub', it seems all leisure time and social aspects revolve around alcohol and it's not healthy.

For many, the pub is the only way to make life bearable in this backward little country.

Did you actually compare people having a drink to a dictator who gassed innocent people?

Have a look out your window. The weather is always dreadful in this country which usually rules out outdoor activity.
And dining is just not our culture.

Probably why pubs are so popular.

Well when the clusters are being linked to meat factories and dog food plants then spreading to direct provision centres its the HSA that need to get their arse into gear inspecting those factories at random and not telling them in advance when they're coming which is what they've been doing.

As for pubs, if they don't open as 'pubs' house parties just continue as they have been throughout in much larger numbers than 'normal'. Keep one business closed which leads to an increase in another thing that they don't want ?

And when pubs close at 1130 people will still go to a house party with more random people from a pub.

Been there, have the t-shirt, was a great time

Well said, if your afraid or just don't want to, stay the f*ck at home and let the rest of us get on with life.

See this is the thing, this is the reason why the pubs shouldn't be open. Because there will be people who don't care about others. Who aren't taking others into their consideration. They just want everyone to get out of their way and "get on with life".

There are too many people who, when given an inch, will take a mile. And those are the people who will ruin it for everyone else. Sure we can't even get a lot of people to wear masks. As if wearing a mask is a big deal.

I fear there's a correlation between someone's loudness on the subject and their level of responsibility once they get what thy want.

Only place with a pub culture like us is the UK. They did well in their battle didnt they with Corona?

Denmark might close their pubs in the latest surge of cases

To be fair after 12 pints of guinness in the pub I've gassed a few innocent people....

Denmark are saying not to reopen further which is nightclubs which everyone knows just cant open.

They've had the entire hospitality sector open for 2 months or more now.

"A significant proportion of the new cases are linked to an outbreak at the Danish Crown meat processing plant in Ringsted, Zealand, where 79 cases of coronavirus amongst staff have been detected since Sunday July 26th."

Indo says they won't be reopening
PUBS will not reopen from next Monday in a major blow to the sector, Independent.ie has learned.

Speaking before Cabinet, Mr Varadkar highlighted the recent spike in new Covid-19 cases in Ireland and across Europe and said the Government’s priority is reopening schools and colleges.

The Tanaiste said the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) recommended a cautious approach in the coming weeks.

Irish pubs and pub culture is different to that of other countries so its not comparable - it is part of the reason almost every city in the world has an "Irish bar."

Horsesh1t of the highest order! The original advice was 90 mins to allow 30 mins to clean between sittings. Restaurants argued they could clean in 15 mins so total time extended to 105 mins to give a 2 hour total, which is the important figure.

What's horsesh1t of the highest order is the 105 mins some Mandarin at Merrion St. picked out of their rear end to slap on pubs operating as restaurants...

Now we're waiting to see what the next set of crazy rules are for the opening of non-food pubs.. Your local pub will look like a Zorbing conference as the publican will have to ensure drinkers wear an inflatable bubble to "keep them safe" from the deadly bug....

I only asked a question. Still didn't get an answer but I'm going to assume no other countries in the EU have their pubs closed.

I think we missed the boat opening pubs tbh. Very dark times ahead for publicans.

wait what? sorry i have been working all day and im only done work now. when was the announcement made?

I think the government needs to be fair to the pub industry if they can't open. Very clear guidance on the criteria which will enable pub's to reopen is required. This should be given now.

I would hate to see the Irish Pub disappear which is a real possibility over the next year.

If the pubs that are still closed haven't seriously looked into getting kitchen facilities to have a viable food offering, then they are going to be waiting a long time to open.

Either close for good or modernise their offering to what most people are looking for from pubs these days.

This is a scandal. Many locals will never open again.

Not everybody wants to go to a pub for food.
