We need to be fighting that damn Covid not each other

Absolutely, it’s an Internet forum. There’s going to be people with different outlooks on the pandemic and personally I believe there’s lots of potential for optimists and pessimists to have good healthy debate. Unfortunately we saw lots of personal attacks on the pessimists early on and now we’re seeing similar for the optimists.

It’s a shame as lots of the replies in the last 24 hrs from both sides could have been written a little less personally and without referring to posters’ history and it would have been a decent discussion.

The problem is that people cope different ways, some catastrophise while others seek out good news. All posts will have a slant or viewpoint depending on the poster. Just a pity really.

Yes, even though the numbers are very stable at the moment the daily reports can show a lot of movements from day to day, even if totals remain the exact same.

If you go back you will see a trend that anyone who posts anything deemed negative gets piled on by the same posters. Same posters now turning on the waterworks.
There is a lot of pots calling kettles black in here

I am amazed this is not generating more attention. 20% of close contacts refuse to be tested
when first contacted.(Day zero test) 50-60% of those who do take the test refuse to be tested again (Day 7 test) when asked to do so.
See 39 minutes into the last briefing.
This means that up to 65% people are not fully co-operating with the contact tracers.
Add to this the anecdotal reports from GPs that people with symtoms are declining to test and also to self isolate until the test is done.

Yes refusing the test should not be allowed

Yes, and the lads post it here and I can then read it, which I appreciate as it saves me time and effort.

It's really not a difficult concept to grasp.

I'm not sure how that would work. I mean they need a court order to obtain a DNA sample.
Drink drivers don't have to provide a breath/urine/blood sample either.
Can't imagine they could get that quickly enough.
Would be better to quarantine people who refuse a test. That could be covered legally under current infections disease control.

    Yes

And I credit Laura from there every single time I do so

Point being, any of us can get this information. We shouldn't be putting anyone on a pedestal anymore on here for pasting information

Ah there's a difference. You post the detailed info which alot of people do be looking for. It's just straight info which people make assumptions from.

ACE posts figures and then makes or picks out key details and comes to a certain conclusions. Like only 4 community transmission cases from today. It's a key piece of info which needs to be pointed out.

Then you have Kermit who literally went looking for the worse effected country/stat daily and just dumped the info randomly without any context. Which I kinda miss actually. Was good to get people discussing it.

Well maybe, but before they do that at least you would expect them (and our wonderful media) to start making a lot more noise about it than they are. I mean, it's all about pubs opening.

If you don't provide a sample for drink driving you are deemed to be guilty though

So use some variation of that to levy fines , detention or whatever

I doubt it, I believe the legislation refers to people being a “probable” source of infection. At current testing positivity rates your much more likely to get a negative than a positive so you wouldn’t be a probable source arguably... I imagine it would challenged in court immediately.

I could have sworn there is existing laws dating back to the time of TB, that gave powers to detain people who could be contagious. Being a close contact of a confirmed case could be just cause to enact it.
A few media reports of people in hazmat suits dragging people to a quarantine facility.... Haha would be like china. But if they start identifying close contacts of someone who refused a test, then it would certainly need to be looked at.

You did question whether I was ignorant the last day, when I was debating with you in good faith.

Felt that was a bit below the belt myself.

    But, I can move on...

Ahh Paddygreen... it is his sincerity that really buoys me up. Another day in the covid sh1t show but knowing Paddygreen is there alongside us clapping with his mask on makes it feel easier somehow.

I think you're one of the better posters on here to be honest, if that comes across as an attack then I apologise. I've no issue admitting when I'm wrong.

I remember being tested for TB about 20 years, couple of the lads got it.

The Health Board absolute shát itself and went into Defcon 17.

I could be misremembering but at the back of mind I think there was some sort of legal threat made if I didn't get the test.

It depends, the current testing positively rate is for all tests, hospital, community, contact tracing.
I'm sure the positivity rate in clusters is much, much higher.

Looks like its a game of wait and watch now to see where the boat swerves. I expect we see more compliance from people to keep this under control. The new normal wont be the old habits.
