So if cases grow to a lot does that bring the median age down, like younger people getting infected and dying, just curious.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Although I am very wary of pedestals because they topple so easily I would still like to claim a covid thread title that gives my posts greater authority. I cannot be a figures man, but you can all refer to me as a ''fine figure of a woman'', please. Going forward.

    Thank you in advance..

Young people are and have been infected the mortality rate however is nowhere near what it is for the older (65+)or vulnerable groups.

If true this is very disappointing. There was a slow increase over a few weeks but it was up and down. It was up one day and down the next. If we get numbers in the 50s and 60s today I would consider it to be high especially considering we've had high number a few days in a row.

Yeah, if the numbers are in the 50/60s, look towards Melbourne to see where we will be back at the end of the month, relatively speaking of course.

People need to be realistic and not deny what we are looking at, the last few days numbers have been far too high.

Depends really, if the numbers are in the 50/60s and the majority are attached to known clusters it's not that a big a deal.

If unknown transmission keeps rising that could potentially be a reason to worry.

Anyone keep check on the positive tests for the last 24 hours?

I thought they were quite smug when we were in severe lockdown- “life is continuing as normal and we are such doing a great job...”
More than a little schadenfraude in reverse here- had a friend in social media used sharing regular posts bashing Ireland and our approach...oh and apparently life was almost as normal for them at the time whereas we couldn’t go 5km without potential hassle.

People returning is spades from Oz at the moment. Have one here with me, we are both quarantining as a result. Work has slowed down big time especially in construction, few acquaintances going to pull the plug this week.

    Not released on Sundays.

Not sure where this 50/60 number for today is coming from because Donnelly certainly didn't mention it during his RTE interview just after 1pm.

He said it on a radio interview earlier.

He said he wouldn't be "surprised".

    Hardly definite.

I don't get his maths either. If 80% of the population is resistant, how come we had any cases at all - surely with most people already resistant, it would be very difficult for a virus to spread.

And he's doing the "I'll just multiply this by 10" thing which is my pet hate when it comes to pandemic statistics.

    Resistant doesn't equal immune.

Yeah not definite but the earlier tweet saying expecting which made it sound definite

Bloody hell, any of us could have said that. Eventually the virus will run out of people to infect, or the impacts of lockdowns will reduce the spread.

What as a matter of interest were his predictions for the US or Brazil?

I can't take anything Michael Levitt says about the situation seriously. When he first appeared on the scene, I was inclined to hear him out, he was after all, a Nobel Prize winner, but when you looked at his conclusions it was hard to escape the verdict that he was wrong.

His first argument was that the virus burned itself out, etc, etc, no need for lock downs etc, etc. But he seemed to totally fail to account for lockdowns having any role to play in controlling numbers. The numbers falling indicated that the "virus" burned itself out, but he took no account of countermeasures that were in existence to try to ensure numbers eventually fell. What?

It was huge blindspot in his analysis. A very obvious one.

He had nothing to say about the resurgence of cases in the US. Nothing. I'm sure you'll be searching a long time to find quotes from him about Brazil.

And lo and behold, he's back. With completely wrong maths, completely made up claims about immunity and exposure to the virus and, best of all, his advice to just let the next outbreaks rip.Jesus Christ.

C'mon, he might be a smart man, but on this he's really dumb.

Haven't heard this, but if Donnelly says he wouldn't be surprised, then I'd be surprised if it weren't true, given that politicians aren't known for forecasting unless they already know something!

The numbers for the last few days are obviously concerning but take the clusters out of it and the only generally concerning thing I’ve seen is the community transmission in the 4 counties Donnelly talked about, although these counties aren’t surprising as such

    On their Facebook page.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support.

As you all know, I am taking a precautionary yet proactive approach by voluntarily closing my business, getting all my team tested as well as continuously adhering to all the relevant HSE guidelines.

I would like to reassure all of our customers that there was no opportunity for the case concerned to have an interface with any member of the public.

I will keep you all informed as to our reopening. We all look forward to welcoming you back to Sheridan’s again.

    Regards,
    Cathal.
