Well at least its not 85 again.

    Enjoy the bank holiday everyone

I came back briefly to see how the full-time 'data analysts' who 'own' this thread explained away this one.

    No surprise. It's all good.

Beware of spin, whether from Stephen Donnelly, Leo Varadkar or the posters here who so desperately try to keep control of the narrative.

BTW for anyone who doesn't know, they just subtract yesterday's figures from today's.

Apparently, that makes them the 'numbers guys'.

House party in Ennis is allegedly the cause of the Clare spike. No idea about Limerick
CMO said last night there had been no cases/clusters linked to house parties in the last week

    Whoops :o

I was told it was travellers (Irish) this afternoon. Probably a travellers house party.

    No house party.

Traveled to a funeral in the UK. Cluster spread across multiple houses in multiple locations in Ennis.

How many under fourteens are having house parties? Ha!

Needs to be un annoucned inspections. Was mentioned in the Dail in the last few weeks that of the meat plants inspected none were annoucned, they all knew in advance so had time to get things in order for just the 1 day if they weren't up to scratch

Maybe its time to have HSA inspectors permanently located in plants, as is already done with veterinary inspectors in larger plants.
In fairness, there seems to be fewer reports of cases in meat plants since the big outbreak in the plant in Roscrea in mid May, so I'm guessing the companies have been warned of the risk of forced closure.
The standards in pet food factories would be a level or two below, so probably an even higher risk.

So "travel related" no quarantining coming back from Covid hot spots

It's a private household which means they were in fact quarantining, no?

Most people are able to form their own opinions, and not let others control the narrative. I appreciate the efforts of anyone who posts useful information in the thread (and for free!), that's what keeps the forum going. And if you think you can do something better/more objectively, please do so.

Unless the entire house had travelled, then no they weren’t.

It’s supposed (and I stress supposed) to be self isolation.

You're supposed to stay at home, not lock yourself into a room, to be fair. That's the recommendation.

I was due to go on a cruise in a few weeks time. Was due to cruise around Malta and Italy and Greece. I still don't know what the story is, if its still going to sail. Paid a deposit a few months ago. Was supposed to pay down the rest of it a few weeks ago but didn't. I don't know where I stand now with the travel agents and the deposit. So far to date have been fed stories that they are working at organising refunds or changing dates for the cruises that was due to sail back in April, May, June. Naturally, I'm not going on the cruise any more because its too risky. There's too much steps involved with the cruise. You're talking about

A bus from my home county to Dublin airport
A flight from Dublin to Italy
Transfer bus from the airport to the ships departure docks
A check in process there which is just like an airports check in process

All in one day too. There's too much risks involved in all of that. If I lived in the country of the ships departure, I could consider going but I don't. Its definitely off the cards for this year.

    What cruiseline?

You are supposed to avoid contact with others. That’s part of the recommendation too.

Yeah, stick it to those pesky kids how dare they have any semblance of a normal summer, meeting their friends, should be taken into care.

Seriously it’s not like 9 & 10 year olds are going to f@*king raves!

Woah woah wait a second. Someone went to a different country and brought it back? Wtf. What about the virus sucking filters on the Ryanair planes?

That's weird. They must have gone by boat.

Antibody tests in Kenya indicate ridiculously low IFR among younger people even in the developing world, I guess it comes as no surprise with such a young population but to my knowledge this is the first major antibody study undertaken in a country with a population demographic as young on average as this.

5% of Kenyans are believed to have antibodies, which is over 2.65 million people.
    Just 340 deaths.

42% of Kenyans are under 14 years of age.

Pretty interesting, if deaths in Africa even reach 100,000 it'd be surprising given this.

A news report from Melbourne in Australia...

This outbreak started with a cigarette lighter being passed around and illicit sex between a security guard and someone being quarantined in a hotel, just a few short weeks ago.

The spread of the virus is like a continuous nasty film loop being played out, no matter where in the world it strikes.

All the usual suspects appear again and again, care homes, meat plants, construction sites, people not keeping quarantine, schools, churches and health workers, followed by the inevitable deaths.

So 0.000018% of the population contracted the virus in 10 days. That’s minuscule.
Dublin and the greater dublin region has a problem. Let’s hope they quench it fast and it looks like it’s been looked after very well

The capital city and main transport hub of a country is the main epicentre of Covid

    Imagine that!

Good to see coordination of any sort. First meeting in 4 years.
I'd say that's why Ryanair are suing. zero tolerance covid on the cards.

    Timing very telling.

You think Ireland are really going for Zero Covid when our airports are still a joke?

If you are over 65 or have an underlying illness you shouldn’t travel in the first place. Otherwise, you’ve more chance of getting hit by a bus than dying of Covid.

I can see your point but I’d urge caution on that particular comparison and the message it might send out...1765 people killed by covid in a few months. Half a year say, in this country. I don’t think 765 people have been killed in bus collisions in 20 years.
