Thanks for the link. Division 1 is wide open while you would have to fancy Barnhall, given their form in last year's 2A, to win out Division 2 but there could be some surprise results. A lot may depend on how seriously the clubs take the competition and which clubs have made new signings and which clubs have lost players. It look like there's going to be playoffs in both divisions to finalise who goes forward into the All-Ireland series. They are also considering running a Senior Cup in September ahead of the Conferences. A lot of matches. Suppose it will give coaches a chance to try out players.

division 2 could be barnhall but then again division 2A can be strange in AIL and form one season to next can vary hugely club to club.
I hope we see a proper senior cup in leinster as there hasn't been one for quite a while. Would be great to see all 18 senior clubs in the province. 4 full rounds with 2 pre lims.

The J1 and firsts on the same day is the way forward even when we get back to playing full seasons. J1 games a lot can be Monday nights and weeknights which tend to suit people better with work and stuff.

20's being on Sundays is also a bit silly, takes college students Saturdays nights away from them. I think if we could get to the space where clubs have 3 games back to back on a Saturday on two pitches, it would make clubs far happier.

far more on sundays than mondays and its clubs choice to play them other nights to be fair

Majority of junior adult games are Saturdays and 20s moving as well to Saturdays would impact referee availability for many games.
20s are nearly all in college so them not being able go out Saturdays.

Too early set id say but do you know have they confirmed venues for the mateman play off across all conferences? Wondering if they pick a venue thats half way travel wise between both teams instead of a set venue been like they done with marys in recent seasons given thats part of a reason we dont have an ail this year because of travel

Will imagine venue for some finals wont be set until finalists known then best most suitable venue chosen

There is a rumour going around that Naas asked to drop down to Group 2, the reason being they are very short on forward this season and then the doubling up of the 1s and 2s on the same day and potential for injuries etc. They are used to lads doubling up to play Sat and Sun

    But it wasn’t allowed.

And they'd back themselves to maybe win group 2.. group 1, not so much.

Think it was known for a while, I remember the original announcement by Lansdowne had said it was likely going to be a longer term commitment than just the interim head coach job.

good for tarf. Have dealt with George a few times when hes been coaching schools and he'll be good coach. Hes been playing junior with wicklow for past while so good to see him back playing senior again
Great to see pro players involved!
and all have been doing bits of coaching with various Corinthians teams over past few years.

Yeah think it was said at time it was announced he was going over that it would be long term

Yeah very true I think they will handle the job just fine marks a great coach and good to have past player experience along with Ben Armstrong managing the forward. I’d imagine you probably will see mike take the reins again somewhere in the future be it 2 years time or 5 years time etc having an Irish wife a family home in Wicklow and kids still in Ireland etc

Thanks for the link. Interesting that the Crescent coach Matt Brown mentioned that because there’s no promotion opportunity this season they have had to sell the new season to the players in order to try and get them motivated. If it is absolutely necessary to only have one series of games in the AIL from January, why isn’t it possible to have top-four and bottom-four promotion/relegation play-offs in every division? Because there is only one series of matches, the team finishing at the top/bottom of their league after playing 9 games would not automatically gain promotion or suffer relegation. There would, for this AIL season, be only one team promoted or relegated in every division. This, I think, would be preferable to what is on offer.

top 4 bottom 2 playoffs as like past few seasons. Maybe IRFU just worried that the season may have to finish early or be suspended so this is just in place to be fair to all.
Maybe if no promotion/relegation all divisions should at least have league playoffs for top 4 with finals all on in the aviva as something to incentivise players.
Or while the bateman cup slightly expanding is good. reintroduce an all ireland senior cup for all senior clubs. 50 teams in the one cup

I see Terenure are saying they currently have 1,000 members, makes you realise how big some clubs are and makes you wonder what's going to happen with attendance when the season starts. Clubs will be really hoping for the 500 max to be in place by the time it comes around and for games like Terenure Mary's the clubs would want it higher to get some much needed funds into the club.
