It seems to be the lower down AIL teams and then the 1A/1B higher teams will join in maybe a quarter final after the new year along with AIL?

at least the lower sides are competing for once. Has been a while since theres been a proper leinster senior cup.
would have to be an extra round ahead of a quarter if all division 1 sides enter the cup

The 18 Senior teams have been divided into three tiers, top, middle and bottom, with six teams in each tier and last season’s finishing positions in the AIL when it was suspended determining positions in the three tiers.

The first round features the six teams in the bottom tier at home to the middle tier teams. The six winners will then host teams from the top tier on 12th September and the subsequent six winners will play in the 3rd round on 19th September. Three teams will be then left, at which stage there will be a draw with the first drawn team advancing to the final and the second drawn team hosting the remaining team in a semi-final. The semi-final and final will be played later in the season. There will be a draw at the end of each round for the following round.

Really hope that's not the case - The competition deserves to be supported by senior clubs. Think Belvo were drawn against Wanderers.

I get why they are doing it but pity you couldnt have an open draw with potential for division 2 clubs to be home to division 1 sides and you might see an upset.
Tarf/Lansdowne travelling to Enniscorthy, Tullamore would be great. When if ever have these clubs travelled with their first team to play in these venues?
The old All Ireland Cup was great for that and Munster and Ulster Senior Cup still allow that.

I remember a few years ago, our first senior season having been promoted, one of our first games was against Garryowen in the Munster Senior Cup first round, who played their full team. That was an experience.....:pac:

Maybe for some but it could attract crowds and some of the bigger clubs could rest some best players if playing lower division clubs in early rounds.
there was some decent shocks iirc from the senior all ireland cup with all clubs competing

Seem like they could just have had 4 rounds since they have 16 teams?
Someone like Old Crescent or Cashel have to play two extra rounds.

Old school cup draw last 16 and then Quarters etc Like the Leinster Senior cup or AIL Cup it would be good for Con to head to Bruff and Garryowen Kilfeacle etc

Munster have done it a lot in past and far more than Leinster have.
Probably should have done it but with that draw Crescent and Cashel both wont make round 3.
Kilfeacle are junior so them playing a 1A side might be a bit much

That’s brilliant for the league, of all the places would have thought he would have ended up after being released North County Derry wouldn’t have been on the list.

Wonder if he will still play.

Theyre a really good club. One of my favourite clubs to visit. Really good supporters.
Theyve a decent update on their website about player movement etc from/to them for the season

Any other transfer news or players in and out?

Hearing a lot of clubs planning games next Saturday 5th and continuing preparations for the conferences then at end of Sept/Oct.

Some clubs struggling with groups of 15 training as they'll be selecting from potentially 3 or 4 groups of 15 to play games over next few months.

Yeah I think his wife is from up around that way.. I just seen there about half hour ago Ballymena academy have him as a coach in their school also. Wasn’t aware he retired from Treviso to be honest... I was half wondering why he was on the team sheet at the weekend v zebra and leaflet on the bench instead lol

Apparently Naas and Barnhall have to pull out of the Senior Cup, as still not allowed to do contact training due to Covid restrictions and first games obivously next weekend.

Which is a shame. Think Tullamore are pulling out too.

Understandable about the Kildare clubs but such a shame the Leinster senior cup will continue to not have majority senior clubs playing

Would be better if fixtures were just postponed

Will yesterday's announcement change this ?

I doubt it, a lad in work used to play for Barnhall so was filling me in. They have not done any contact training or been able to even use rugby balls for the past 3 weeks. Can’t expect themselves or Naas to come up against sides with 3 weeks extra training, just on a safety side of it.

Nothing new from what’s already mentioned... in terms of 1a Lansdowne probably put in the biggest effort I’d say with getting McElroy and Clive Ross Back and Ed okeefe to name a few
