Some slight, vanishingly small signs of potentially emerging backbone from some Green TD's. Probably nothing. Be gone tomorrow most likely.

If enough of them can collapse government and then jump ship - maybe we can have a proper Progressive Green Party by the end of the year, ready for a 2021 election.

    Incredibly unlikely, but who knows.

So in other words they don't say anything in Australia about working for an Irish boss?

    Irish people do.

That part of my statement is the least of your worries pal

Is today the last day of Dail before holidays, this "new" government has got off to an awful start

yeah they are wrapped up now for six weeks holidays, Id say all the government TDs are grateful for that because the last six weeks has been like a heavyweight boxer battering around a welterweight. Its only the end of the first round and the FFGG government are staggering back to their corner bruised and battered.

Senior hurling Heavyweight boxing lads, etc, etc

This junior Green minister that no one has ever heard should now decide on whether he can support the government. He can't have it both ways by abstaining.

    He wasn't elected to abstain.

What happens if a TD is expelled from their party? Do they become independent?

Basically yes. They then get an allowance for being an independent by the way to make up for losing party money for literature, campaigning etc.

Expelled TDs can and have remained loyal to the government they've left and it doesn't mean they'll vote them down in a no confidence motion.

What is it with the Green Party and their hair?

First Eamo, then I notice Joe O'Brien and Nessa Whatshername today

A party where they are willing to dye for their principles ........Geddit??

They're being backed by almost 10 independents though which gives them more wiggle room.

The Government is reliant on Green Party participation nonetheless and Varadkar has already put it on the record that Fine Gael will be gone if the Green Party fall away.

The Green Party have essentially lost 2 of their 12 TD's tonight alone, including their whip, and it wasn't even a contentious vote.

The whole thing is shaky and is already crumbling away. Imagine what it will be like when an actual tough and divisive vote comes around.

Varadkar is not helping the situation with his attitude, its as if he wants to push to Martin into bringing down the government.

We have got to take short term pain for long term gain.
The best thing that can happen to Ireland is the FF-FG-Green government continues to stumble from disaster to disaster, a absolute calamity is what is needed to finally get the population voting for these chancers to give some thought to who they vote for in the next election.

Remember when it was imperatives that we got a Government together but not a unity government because of all the immediate emergency stuff coming up? The need for a strong and stable government right? They must have done some work to say they can still take this break so soon.

So you take no holidays every year?

Are you saying if another party was in government they wouldn’t take holidays either?

Our friends in Northern Ireland seem to have a nice holiday

    http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/about-the-assembly/general-information/

    11 July 2020 to 1 September 2020

Just for a comparison of course. Didn’t hear you complain when they went on hols in the height of covid?

The Greens sanctioned the two TDs. Both have lost speaking rights for 2 months. The ban starts now, so it includes the 6 weeks holiday recess.

Is the Green Party a complete joke ?

I'd say there will be a split in the Green Party soon between the folks who get what real politics is about, and the dream catcher ideological sorts who think everything should be about high falutin principles over actually getting stuff done.

Still think there's a good chance of a FF/SF/Independents government before the end of the year.

I know everyone needs a break at some point but 6 weeks in the middle of everything going to **** is taking the hand.

The government usually take a longer summer break to be fair. Much too long. I do think FFG need to go and regroup after the worst start to a government in living memory. They need to strengthen this arranged marriage and learn to communicate.

Maybe they will do a U-turn on the holidays and come back earlier to address the real problems facing the country as we sink further into recession. ;)

We came out of a recession before. They are for us sucker's to scrape our way out of and fix. People still voted for the same clowns again.

    Which story?

There's a few that immediately spring to mind to be fair.

Everything is not going to pot, apart from the 'skool' plan. Phase 4/5 is a Cabinet decision and there's no massive urgency to be there for anything else. Remember we're still in pandemic mode, even if it's an eased version of it.

I take it when we're quiet. And if we're busy or something big comes up we reschedule oh and it's definitely not 6 consecutive weeks.

Some clowns are better than other clowns, as a glance across the Conference Centre will show you. People just vote, a lot of the time that helps choose the government. These last couple of elections the politicians have had to make it up, so it's not entirely their fault.
