Prof. Nolan: "I disagree that numbers are going up. Transmission is being supressed with some clusters superposed. Realistically, numbers have gone up for 1 day."

Somewhat reassuring to see detection and isolation in action. The worry is how easy will it be to keep the cat in the bag if there are more clusters than outbreak teams to control them. If we start to get unexplained outbreaks then it’s harder to contain.

You can actually hear the fear in George Lee's voice.

George Lee is asking some terrible questions, literally looking for the CMO to scare.

Well it's what he lives for.

Yes of course but also showing that some workplaces not exactly adhering to best practices with such a serious outbreak

If a cat here gets diagnosed with it, that could be the end of him :D

    CMO: "We are very concerned."

I don't know how that translates into "CMO says everything is grand."

Thankfully smell doesn't transmit over the airwaves.

If today shows one thing it's that some factory owners are still clearly not taking enough precautions.

Yup that's the point I've been trying to make. Asymptomatic or not, its quite clear that having at least 40 staff infected in a factory shows serious failings

Zero chance schools will be opening at full capacity in 4 weeks time. The virus is on the march again and we haven't even reached Autumn never mind Winter.

He literally said he hopes for schools to open, cases are not going up, contact tracing is working. What does that translate to?

Despite Glynn saying that they should be?

Dr. Glynn also said there have been no known cases linked to house parties in the past week.

Likewise no known outbreaks related to restaurants / pubs

He is right to be fearful.

CMO: "It doesn't appear that today's cases are a sign of increased community transmission"

Don't think he was expecting prof Nolan to jump in with that reply

I haven't read all of the recent comments but is there a County by County breakdown of the reported 85 Cases ?

    Thanks.

Since they reopened, thankfully no cases have been associated with them. Touch wood, it stays that way

Unfortunately the country is full of “paddy greens”. Will be avoiding all social media tonight as I don’t revel in misery

Has it been confirmed the virus is seasonal?

I'm actually feeling very confident in our response after tonight's press conference, more so than I have been for the last week.

We are WELL on top of this.

He also said wait and see what happens tomorrow and that they think it will fall to 20 cases a day.
