This is exactly why RTÉ need to stop sending out notifications of the cases every day. It’s doing nobody any good. Some peoples mental health must be shot. We see the crazies on here never mind the older generation that aren’t reading into the numbers.

So because some people only read headlines the rest of us have to be spoon fed too?

Between 30 & 40 cases in the last week associated with the Kildare factory for just staff alone. All staff tested.

Direct provision centres impacted from the factory.

So you've got 30 to 40 staff postive so far plus the cases associated to the staff.

And it’s going on for a week with no rise in hospital admissions

The 40 two days ago was also related to the dog food factory and construction sites

Can you explain what incoming travellers have to do with this?
They are part of a very long list of people to blame.

    Those figures are rubbish tbf

We don't really test for the flu.

We don't test the many many old people in nursing homes etc that die with flu every year

Pneumonia lol, that kills a **** load of old people every year, way more than the 1,000 pneumonia deaths we record

My mother worked in a nursing home for years and the amount of deaths per year from pneumonia, flu type stuff and the like was mad, 10 -15 residents out of 100 residents could die over Dec/Jan/Feb and no one would take any notice.

As an acquaintance of mine, he's 80 years old and many of his friends are now deceased, characterised nursing home residents, "They're sitting there waiting to be called to heaven."

In one sense, that's very good news.....you wouldn't want 85 cases springing up all over the country.

Just the 40 odd cases did that?

He seems pretty confident about schools, expects a lot smaller number tomorrow

Just a blip he hopes! Also hopes to have schools open.

I'd say we'll see another one or two days of high-ish numbers based on the fact that not all of the factory results are back

A fairly serious outbreak too, with work measures such as temperature checking etc you'd question how such an outbreak occurred in the first place.

Up to 40 cases from staff alone since last week then you've the contacts and direct provision centers on top of them.

All credit to the HSE, some serious ground work being undertaken by the sound of it

People's entire day and mood is being determined by these numbers. There's going to be spikes and clusters. No way around it unless you lock everyone down again so may as well get used to it. Just have to stop them becoming an upward trend but likelihood is the numbers will continue to fluctuate up and down until a vaccine is available.

Are they providing isolation facilities to the factory workers so they don't infect their household?

Yup just been said now, anyone who wants to avail of the self isolation facilities can do so

2 direct provision centres linked to the factory outbreak.

Should be stressed btw that people living in direct provision don't want to live in direct provision. They are being forced by the state to live on top of one another.

I didn't think people from direct provision centres were allowed to work? How would the factory impact them?

Is that still in the City West hotel?

Yup. That's what has happened today. The factory has been shut for a week.

There's only 26 cases in Kildare of the 85 though, in two clusters. One of them (factory) has ~ 40 cases in total. What you're saying doesn't add up.

I think they should be telling people where outbreaks and cases are occurring down town or locality.

It would help people in those areas to really ramp up their caution. Because people are getting lax.

Grand. I will defer to the experts just like we all should. Keeping cool.

    Gonna do the same.

Cheers. And what did the acting CMO say to that question.

Worth noting that the "vaccine" each year is bit of a guess due to the flu mutations, which is why some years it works great and others not so much.
Yes. Uptake also not as good as it should be and even if vaccinated, person will not always seroconvert. And as you say better some years than others depending on strain. But provides some level of protection and helps to interrupt chains of transmission compared to having no vaccine yet for Covid-19.

The factory is not the only cluster that has been reported.

40 cases at a factory shows how easily it spread in indoor settings.

Cant see Pubs opening for a long time.
Schools may open but no chance they'll stay open over the winter

Still only July looking like this winter is going to awful

Those are Northern plates, so they are not necessarily Brits.

Everyone who works in Kildare doesn’t live in Kildare

Person working in Kildare could be living in Laois or another neighboring county so even though source of outbreak is Kildare case is counted elsewhere. Laois at plus 9.
