In Ireland 22 deaths were attributed to influenza during the 2019/2020 flu season. 1764 people killed by covid.

    Those figures are rubbish tbf

We don't really test for the flu.

We don't test the many many old people in nursing homes etc that die with flu every year

Pneumonia lol, that kills a **** load of old people every year, way more than the 1,000 pneumonia deaths we record

My mother worked in a nursing home for years and the amount of deaths per year from pneumonia, flu type stuff and the like was mad, 10 -15 residents out of 100 residents could die over Dec/Jan/Feb and no one would take any notice.

R0 is the one to watch. At about 1 or below pubs should get the thumbs up, even if they find 100 cases on Monday!

Its the averages to watch. R is affected by clusters etc as we saw with the Killarney cluster which inflated R to a figure that wasn't an accurate portrayal of the national picture. This all happens with low cases.

Its likely to stay around 1 for a good while

How are people living in a direct provision center working?

Asylum seekers can work if living in Ireland for longer than 9 months.

Yep, 2021 is the best date for them but only with a vaccine and to hell with anyone who says otherwise!

    'Vaccine'.

Schools will never re-open, neither will pubs. Time to get used to 'partial' lockdowns for the rest of eternity because we want to save 0.65% of the population.

Correct. My Grandfather died in Nov of pneumonia after a non-flu respiratory infection, where is Dr. T reporting on those every day?

And yet there are so many Brazilians here in this country trying (pretending) to learn English and avail of our lovely working laws. Scam almighty. They should have gone to Portugal same language but no, it is always Ireland probably because we let everyone in now.

We should go back to being an island nation and only let the food exporters and the techies in lol.

    Await a few bombs now.

1 new death 85 new cases

Factory cluster in Kildare. Direct provision centres, no shock there only that it took so long. Construction sites also hot spots.

Median age 34 - which tallies with the kinds of places the outbreaks are in.

At least they're all isolated clusters, they can be tracked
