There's a cluster at a direct provision centre in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. 10 positives so far and mass testing has been underway there for the past 24 hours.

The last line may trigger some in here, but this is from an NHS ICU doc. Not sure if there's an agenda, but interesting point of view on europe's "Second wave"

Could you summerise what he siad please?

Well at least mass testing is underway and that should be fairly well contained like similar outbreaks.

Quite impressive really our process to deal with outbreaks as seen in Sligo and Killarney for example

No sign of a spike in any country's national figures. Have to look at it regionally, in the exact same way we look at the US. Does he think there will be a second wave? No. Does he think it will be endemic? Yes, with a couple of thousand deaths a year, "In the exact same way as the flu".

Thanks, a collective melt down from a few on the way so at the use of the f word.

Basically you won't see a real second spike at national level, you need to look regionally, and when you do, any parts of Spain, Portugal, Germany, etc that are seeing increases now haven't been 'hit' before.

US should be looked at as 50 nations all having their peaks at different times.

Does he think there will be a second wave? No.

He thinks it will become endemic and we'll see 'a few thousand tragic deaths' each year, not unlike the flu

Where are Ireland on the charts in relation to this? Number of deaths per million and that?

In Ireland 22 deaths were attributed to influenza during the 2019/2020 flu season. 1764 people killed by covid.

It’s a factory in Newbridge. Think you read the headline too fast.

No it's not. The cases originated from two lads who worked in the factory and live in the centre.

One area which clearly needs to be controlled and is causing outbreaks all over the place are nightclubs and large indoor gatherings. Limit these and other things can open up.

R0 is the one to watch. At about 1 or below pubs should get the thumbs up, even if they find 100 cases on Monday!

If that happens people only the population only have themselves to blame. They can't turn on the waterworks and go crying to the media and Joe Duffy about the pubs being closed. If it happens it means sections of the population is failing to understand what is required of all of us going forward to suppress this virus.

The three Cs must be followed

    Avoid:
    CLOSED SPACES with poor ventilation
CROWDED SPACES with many people nearby
CLOSE CONTACT SETTINGS such as conversations up close.

The boards poster cited the flu death vs covid death stats. That's all.

Yep, 2021 is the best date for them but only with a vaccine and to hell with anyone who says otherwise!

And you used it in an attempt to belittle the opinions of a NHS ICU doctor and those reporting what he said. That's all.

How are people living in a direct provision center working?
